but so far have gotten no answers.

Could some of y'all that have DTV or DN check it out.

We have Dish Network, and are very happy with it. Before we got it, I researched Direct TV vs. Dish Network, and found Dish Network more to our liking (but I can't remember now what caused us to make that choice). We do not have high definition service, but are thinking of getting it in the near future. We have a DVR--and it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It can do all the things you mentioned in your linked post. Plus, we can pause and rewind live TV broadcasts! Love it!!!!

We had Dish Network about 2 years ago.
Only problem we had was it stopping recordings
right before the end of the program.
Being able to go a minute over on Season Passes solves that.

I am on DISH now. I was on DirecTV for many years, but when I needed to move the dish, DirecTV would do nothing to help - until after I had signed a contract with DISH. Then DirecTV kept calling and calling and calling trying to get me back. Too bad - they had their chance. DISH has a system in place to upgrade your equipment. They have a system for moving and they have a system for equipment protection (our LNB keeps getting messed up). While I was with DirecTV they had nothing like that that they let the customer know about. BUT all that said - try calling each for their best deals and play them off against each other! Anne

vcr to dvd recorder and dish network hookup

Looks like some folks on here no what they are talking about. I have a Samsung TV which my step son hooked up to the Dish box as well as my DVD Recorder and separate VCR. I have recorded programs off the TV to DVD's successfully but I'm unable to record from the VCR and I want to convert my VCR tapes to DVD's. He has it set up currently so that Input selection is "TV" you can watch the VCR. When the input selection is on "VCR" (channel 3) you can watch the DVD or watch what is on the dish. When I tried to record recently I got 2 hrs. of the Dish opening screen. Is it something that I can easily correct....beings as I'm electronically challenged!

I don't know how up to date the below link is, but it shows the HD channels that Directv carries in Bold Letters. You'll probably need a new dish as this table covers the 101, 110 and 119 satellites. Directv is just now starting to deliver local HD with the launching of two new satellites, one of which is now up and operating at, I believe, 102 degrees. Their first test market is Detroit, and they hope to have local HD available in 11 or 12 more of the largest cities by the end of the year. They they are about to launch another satellite which, I think, will be located at 99 degrees. If all goes according to schedule, and on time, they hope to offer local HD to all of the markets, as well as more national HD channels by the end of 2007. Probably an LCD High Definition? There are CDs available that you can buy and use to set your TV set for the best picture especially if it's HDTV. AVIA is one and runs about $50. Here is a link that might be useful: AVIA

You can program it to start X number of minutes before the broadcast, and stop X number of minutes after the end of the broadcast.
