I'm 'fessin' up'

yup. I've been a "lurker" for several years now and and finally taken the steps to become one of you! I love this forum and feel I've gotten to "know" many of you through your heartfelt posts.

I am married, mother to 4 boys (men now), grandmother to 3 darling granddaughters. We raise cattle, pigs, and hay. I work as a literacy teacher and love every minute of my life.

Nice to be here!

Lol, poor Daniella. Ask him if he will do my laundry too. I throw it all in together and everything looks like crap, lol. I was telling John about this and he said ohhh good idea about the pots and the roots now that winter is coming he is wanting to bring in more of them so he is liking the idea of burying the pots in the ground then lifting the pots for the winter. He forgets before we did all these flower beds and I told him about this he told me I was crazy and why would I want to dig a hole and buy a pot. Just put the dang things in the ground and leave them there he said, lol. How soon he forgets now that he is getting excited that they are going to start blooming, lol. I bet we have sunken pots next year, lol. The one I had last year bloomed in the garage nearly all winter long. I think he is remembering that and realizing all those in the ground are going to have to be cut down and he will miss them blooming. Who wants to make a bet he digs up some of his to bring in the house instead of cutting them, lol.

I have confessed several things to my parents as an adult. When I was in high school or college I finally confessed to what happened the first time I ever remember lying to my parents. I was in first grade and my elementary school had a policy that if any students found change on the playground, we had to turn it into the office and at the end of the quarter, if nobody had claimed it, they returned it to us in class, taped to a 3x5 notecard. I remember several times the secretary coming to the class and passing out the found money back to the kids, and I wanted money to be passed out to me soooooo bad. So I had lost my tooth and the "toothfairy" had given me 2 nickels, and my parents had them sitting on a hutch in our living room. So, I stole one of my own nickels, and turned it in to school saying that I found it on the playground, LOL. I clearly remember sitting around the table at dinner and my parents asking all of us if we took the nickel and I lied. I felt guilty about it for years. And, by the way, I did my nickel back at the end of the quarter. hahahaha!

I'm breaking up with Baker's Joy!
Q

You're welcome AnnieBanani. To recap. For those bakers who are having issues with cakes sticking to pans, use any combination of homemade Pan Coatings, posted above. For those who do not like the taste (or lack thereof) that shortening offers in the pan release mixture, combine Butter & Flour, instead. Read my comment above. For those who don't like white splotches on their chocolate cakes, grease, then, dust your pans with baking cocoa. However, if you bake a lot of chocolate cakes, make a glaze of Cocoa and Melted Butter (or any fat of your choosing) and brush your pan with the chocolate sludge (for lack of a better word). Works like a charm. For those who fear their cakes will pick up a "raw flour" taste (Sleevendog, I'm looking at you) simply grease your pan, as usual, and dust with Granulated Sugar. The sugar will adhere to the cake, giving it a bit of sweetness and a subtle crunch. For those who rather not bother with any of the above, stick with whatever you're comfortable with. You'll be happier and less stressed in the end. And the forsaken chunks of cake can either go in English Trifle, or used as a quick snack. I tried to read all the comments, but I haven't had my coffee yet. Hope I didn't miss anything. Sol

I'm giving up on Garden Phlox
Q
Comments (29)
As the poor guy that originated this thread I thought it appropriate to report back as the season winds down. My white David phlox had light mildew all season. I let them grow because I wanted to verify they were, in fact, Davids and I believe they were. They did attempt some scattered blooms, but were no where near what Davids can look like. They are still putting up a valiant, but meager, show. My lavender David phlox were a total bust. They mildew on these, supposed mildew resistant varieties, was horrible. I had created some nice large airy spaces for them but they got it early and never got rid of it. At this stage these phlox look dead. I had another problem with the garden phlox that I had attempted to reintroduce into my garden that will discourage their use in the future - deer. They seem to like the soft green growth at the tops, as well as the flowers. So as much as love a perennial garden with garden phlox as its backbone it won't be phlox next year. I will remove all the phlox and spent some winter time thinking about another set of 36" replacements.

Well.. I think I'm gonna say WELCOME again! I think.. even late (east coast) the ole KT can generate a lil' bit more of a commotion over such a stellar new additon.

Besides, goodness knows I could use a bit of work on the literacy side of my posts.

Welcome! I have wondered about being a literacy coach, if that is what it is. Years ago I remember seeing a woman teaching a young man to read at our local library and thought that I would like to do the same when I finally had the time. Well, I do have the time now, but I have not contacted anyone about the training. Tell me about what it is that you do as a literacy coach, if you do that kind of training. What organization did you use for the training and contact?

Thanks cynic, would love a cold one, it's ding, dang HOT here in the deep south lately! That's okay though, it's also rather arid and the tomatoes and the garden in general thrive in this weather!
Thanks to all that welcomed me, and more importantly, the ranch_girl!!!! Yippee I Yay!! (or words to that effect)

You hot Alabamian tamale, I'll toss this one back with you and the cynic and we'll coerce the ranch girl to slap one back too!

Hey, I'm gonna try to get some garden photo's up and bore you tomorrow, it's coming along nice. Also, thirty new chicks slipped past the tornadoes in Missouri a few weeks ago to make it south and it would be neat to show them off too! Ten Plymouth Rocks, ten Cinnamon Queens and ten Rhode Island Reds, all hens. I have a cock already and he's one cantankerous, ill humored and vinegar filled S.O.B. If he pops me one more time he's gonna be swimming with the dumplings!
