My mom is gone too...

She died last Thursday. Her cancer finally won.

I thought I wouldn't be able to live without her, but she was so sick that I need to focus on the joy that she is now free from pain. I wouldn't wish her back to go through it all over again.

Mom was 78.

Monday evening, we had a picnic celebration of her life and instead of weeping, I smiled and was delighted when over 100 people who were touched by her life walked down the path to the pavilion in the beautiful mountaintop park. So many people!

She swore if we had a proper viewing and funeral - she would haunt us forever. Not that that would be a bad thing mind you, but we respected her wishes.

The minister said hers was one of the most relaxed services her ever did. She would have loved it. I can't say how many people came up to me and members of my family and said it was the most beautiful service they ever went to.

I thank all of you over the years for praying and supporting me and my mom on this journey.

She is at peace and life is truly good...

Kathy, I am so sorry for your loss but am happy that your mom is painfree and that she left such a wonderful legacy. It is obvious that she was truly loved. Good job celebrating her life, I hope that the caring and loving farewell carries you thru the sad times of missing mom.

Wow, what a merry-go-round just to get here! I'm not allowed to log in...the format is changed & it seems my name & password were not recognized! When searching for this site I was given a page ending in December postings! When I fianally did get here again, adverts are all over the page! And I couldn't put this message in until I chose Canadian Member underlined. Only then was I recognized & was allowed to post a message! I also noted on my "newly formatted" Information Member Page my email address is not available. My days at GardenWeb are over I think. Dear Rhonda: I have never met you or your Mother, but I am sitting here with a tears in my eyes. it reminded me of my Mother who instilled a love of gardening in me as a child. My Mother has been gone now for many years, however anytime I walk into my garden, I feel her presence all around me. In time I am sure you too will be comforted with these same feelings about your Mom's passing. May the joy of gardening comfort you in the future, as the pain of your loss slowly begins to lessen. I'm sorry to learn of your mother's death, and for all the ups and downs. When death comes it's hard to believe that it is over. My own mother died a prolonged death from leukemia. It was a relief when she finally passed away, but still oh, so *final*. It will probably be very hard for quite a while, but...time DOES heal. One day you will be able to think of your mother with only love -- no sorrow.

Stanlie, these people are power-crazy and do not want people (G-d forbid) to make a tree or shrub decision by themselves. Only the MANAGEMENT and BOARD know what trees and shrubs we should have. Judging from the extreme overuse of purple ornamental plum trees, trees planted by the curb way too close (resulting in stunting of the shorter species), etc., I have little confidence in the knowledge of the "landscape company" or their "landscape workers". No, they would not allow me to plant a large shrub or small tree. As a matter of face, I recall my neighbor Tom last year telling me quite indignantly that the "landscape workers" removed a Rose of Sharon his wife had planted 5 years earlier, because "it was too close to the building". They didn't even tell him or give him an opportunity to move it. They just snatched it out of the ground, and a rose bush, too.

HUGS to you Kathy. Sounds like a most beautiful send off. You sound so much at peace. I know it is hard. I lost my mom when I was 28. My kids do not remember her. I am now 51 and still miss her to this day. Wish so much I could talk to her.

I just wanted to give you a hug and a smile and it sounds so lovely what you did for her.

Ya Ya - who lost my mom in Dec. and am still adjusting everyday.

My sympathies on losing your mom. You sound at peace, as we know your mom finally is. I'm glad she's not suffering anymore. I have heard many people say it's harder to watch someone you love die than to die yourself. Having watched both my parents die, I can see why that would be said.

It's so good that you honored your mom's wishes, and that the memorial was everything she deserved. I tell my kids the same thing about viewings, etc., and hope they'll listen as well. Hugs to you, Kathy.

I'm so sorry Kathy. My mom's wonderful funeral really softened the blow of losing her too. I was not expecting to feel such positive feelings at that point but it was actually very uplifting.

I know how hard it was to type those words, "My mom is gone too..." I remember typing similar words 8 years ago, the words we never want to type.

You have a healthy attitude about your dear mother's passing, and surely she was ready to go. The memorial gathering was wonderful, and what a comfort to you to know how she would have loved it and to know how many people cared. Deepest condolences to you and your family.

I'm sorry she had such a struggle at the end of her life. My mother was dying for over a year. (Age 72 - leukemia.) When she did die I felt as you probably do, relieved her pain was over, and almost too emotionally exhausted to comprehend she was gone.

Rest now. Mourn. Accept the support offered you. Eventually you will be able to remember the happy times, before she was so sick and dying.

It IS so helpful to see a wonderful turnout for a memorial. Anyone reading here and debating whether to attend a wake, funeral or memorial service -- GO!

Kathy, my sincere sympathies are offered to you and your family. The picnic celebration you had for your Mother sounded wonderful, all the more so b/c you knew it's what she would like. Only time will ease your pain, but focus on your good, happy memories for now.
