What happens to a blocked person's email?

I use Outlook Express, and was wondering what kind of a message, if any, does a sender get when I have put their email address on the "Blocked Sender" list?

Do they get a gobblety-goop sort of message saying their message couldn't be delivered, or are they informed that they are on a 'blocked' list, or maybe just nothing happens and they think their message was delivered and I'm just not responding.

Always wondered about this.

I can't say definitively for Outlook, but normally, it's put in a spam folder and/or deleted. There probably would be nothing sent back to them unless they asked for a receipt and you allowed it.

I have Outlook Express and mine go directly to the "Delete" folder.

right you can only have one antivirus program on the pc at one time, you can have multiples of the malware programs that you run the scans manually with they are not running all the time so would not conflict. here are my instructions (I now just keep them in a document) McAfee removal directions these are the full directions for Mcafee removal, I used this exact procedure and it went well and have since shared it with others for their removal. be sure you use the mcafee removal tool after you have removed it from add remove programs or much will be left behind. First turn off Mcafee at the icon in the systray. I had to go into msconfig and turn off all mcafee items from startup prior to trying to uninstall, just turning them off did not work it would say the program was still running. So if you run into this when going to add remove programs try doing that. I then removed everything using add remove programs, leaving Security center till last. Then used the removal tool, after that I went to Program Files and deleted all mcafee files. Also set Windows explorer to show all hidden files and folders and deleted the mcafee folders. I found these instructions on how to do this on the mcafee forums. 1. Uninstall all mcafee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel". 2. Use the MCPR tool, see this article: How to remove supported mcafee consumer products using the mcafee Consumer Products removal tool (MCPR.exe). This will remove all mcafee remnants from your computer. (you must have Windows Vista, XP or 2000 SP4 to use this tool) 3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all mcafee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\\Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the mcafee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. Can be more than one! Yes, it's spam and it's called spoofing as mentioned. While it's not technically "dangerous" to open them, you could be asking for more spam by opening it. Often they'll put in a little code to tell if you've opened it and that verifies the email address. A verified email address is worth much more than an unverified one in the spamming world. Not unlike a known telephone number is worth more to a telemarketer. When you get this stuff, delete it, or pay the price. OJ, sometimes people will do the right thing and use BCC when they send mail to multiple people. They usually put their own address in the "To" field and "BCC" the others so addresses will be hidden. It's the right thing to do. Now that doesn't mean that it's *not* spam though! :) People who send to everyone in their address book and not BCC, and also the people who just forward hoaxes and other junk should have their computers confiscated.

You were refueling. Gardenweb is one of my favorite places to refuel before I plunge into whatever I'm trying to accomplish. Unfortunately, the more I read about here, the longer the list grows :-). Update on the room: I got the plaster bonding agent. I ended up getting Silpro Weld-o-bond because it was available locally, and it is labeled for bonding old plaster to gypsum materials. If you are in the greater Boston area this may be easier to find than Link or Plasterweld. I tried spraying it but I wimped out on the mess. Plus it was beading and dripping off the plaster, not soaking in. I ended up brushing it into the cracks with a small (1 1/4") Purdy brush. I had to make multiple passes as the first pass would apply, second would break surface tension, and subsequent ones would provide more liquid to absorb. I also thinned it nearly 50/50 with water per label instructions. It is fantastic! No more crispy crumblies! I can run my finger down a crack, and it does not rain sand down on me. I wish I'd known about this before; it is great stuff. At $12/gallon, it's a cheap lifetime supply. Today I am moving some cabinets around in my kitchen so that the refrigerator can open fully (it has been flush to a side wall since we moved in 2 years ago). Wish I'd thought of this before. Of course, the cabinets are 50 years old and nailed in 50 different ways, so it's a bear to get them out. I'll be using screws to put them back :-). Hopefully I will finish that today and then it's back to the trunk room.

Hazelnutbunny, I'll get that address off to you this evening. You'll do fine with the points. Some directions are easier than others to get them to line up well. Many times, when I have a lot of triangles to do, I modify the pattern from working with little triangles, to using two squares, and seaming them down the middle and cutting off the waste to use later in a scrappy. Those bias seams are doosies. I also starch bias seams before I sew them and handle them carefully now. I was amazed at the play in them and always wondered why my triangles were out of shape and my points off. I'm still working on it too! I also have to make a fabric run for this one, but thank goodness for fat quarters! Hi pattico,

We had a suspicion that such was their destination when they arrived in your "Inbox".

Actually, if you'd blocked them, they wouldn't be delivered, so you'd not know that they'd been sent, unless your provider so notified you, would they?

But the original poster was asking what kind of message the sender would receive about a message arriving after you'd blocked them.

Have a lovely late spring week ... it's cool here tonight (and they had snow on the Prairies - came up fo WY and MT, we heard).

If you would like to do a test, you could block me, and I could try emailing you and then post here if I get an email from the 'postmaster' or whatever saying my email was undeliverable.

Just post here, or drop me an email, if you would like for me to do a test with you. I would then email you privately, and not via GW as sometimes GW email is not reliable. I'd post here once I had emailed you, and also post if/when I got an email saying it was undeliverable....or not

The sender does not get any message.

With Outlook Express - you are just directing the blocked mail to your deleted file. You are still getting it - you just don't see it.

This is from Outlook Express help:

When you block a sender or domain, no e-mail or news message from that sender or domain will arrive in your Inbox or in the news messages you read. E-mail from blocked senders goes directly into your Delete folder.

I'm guessing then that they would maybe get some sort of a postmaster email if they were blocked with your email provider...ie Hotmail, Yahoo, or with your ISP, etc.

If they DO get a notice (which I don't think they do) it sure hasn't stopped one of DH's buddies from forwarding 100 emails a day! LOL
We have him blocked to avoid jamming up our Inbox. It all goes to the deleted folder. We noticed something happened after about a year of him being blocked. NO emails! That was great, the DH talked to him on the ham radio and he was asking for everyones email addys cause his computer crashed and he'd lost them all! LOL This guy is well known for this and DH gave him our addy again, doesn't matter it goes directly to the deleted items and we just hit delete all and empty it.
