Tooth chipped

I went to a new dentist and did not like him, he wants to do tons of stuff to my teeth that I think is too much. I just changed dentist and go on regular schedule.

Anyway he said I had to have a root canal before the cap could be put on this chipped tooth. About 1/3 third the tooth is missing and I have no pain what at all. Why can't they just cap it? I am thinking I need a second opinion am I right?

Man, I wish I knew. Each time I go to the dentist, I just think... man oh man, I am in the wrong business.

Is it because of the nerve in the tooth?
I'm not a dentist but seems to me I've heard of that...

Raven, I have no experience with blueberries or low ph soil. My experience in the fertilizer business has been that dry sulfer is the cheapest. If I remember right dry sulfer comes in a 90% formulation. Ammonium sulfate adds some, but you would have to use a LOT of product compared to just using dry sulfer. You can not dissolve Dry sulfer into a slurry though I don't think. If you want to go liquid it comes that way, but it costs a lot more. It would take 5900 pounds of ammonium sulfate ($1200-2000) to do the same thing, and adding that much AMS would add a lot of nitrogen and Im not sure if you would need that or not. Around here you could find a dry fertilizer outfit to bring a spreader out if it was a big enough job. 1/2 acre not so much. But I bet it could be done as an experiment even with a yard spreader, or some kind of pull behind a 4-wheeler spreader. It would just take some math to make sure you got it spread right. It would need incorporated, either with rain or mechanically. If my calculations are right it would take 296 gallons of a 26% liquid sulfer product to amend 1/2 acre from 6 down to 4.5ph.

cause service costs money....i can deal with having all gears but 3rd(which is where the problem is) but this is the first fall that ive picked up leaves without the use of 3rd and 2nd is too slow and 4th is to fast. i may turn to my dealer but think i could maybe be able to do it myself.3rd gear still even works.....i just dont want to use it because it makes an awefull click/grind noise and will eventually wear out. And yes jd service is great, i needed a new carb a while ago and they had the part from illonois the next day and the tractor back to me the next day. i wanna know somebody with a box store or a mtd that can get stuff that fast.

I agree on the rice cakes, although with enough peanut butter they're elevated to barely edible. One of my bosses years ago said they were "like eating compressed air". I don't care for soy nuts either but the worst snack I ever had was a "sesame candy" that Elery bought at the Asian market in Ann Arbor. He loves sesame, I tolerate it, but he stuck one of those things in his mouth and promptly spit it back out. Of course, that meant I just had to see how bad it was. It was bad, extremely sweet yet rancid. Ewwww. I don't know where it came from because I couldn't read the package, so it was my own fault, LOL. Actually, one of the worst lately was a Hostess chocolate cupcake. I don't remember them being dry and tasteless, or the frosting leaving that slick of tallow in my mouth. Maybe they used to be better, but if Bud ever offers to share with me again I'll politely tell him "no thank you"! Annie

Here we've had "golden" dollar coins for over 20 years. When DD was small the tooth fairy brought a shiny $1. Once when we were away on vacation she lost a tooth but none of the local stores had any shiny $1 coins so I had to polish one up with Coca Cola :-) When I was younger I was nanny for three small children. It turned out their family tradition was to put teeth in a glass of water on the bedroom mantel for the Tooth Fairy to collect. The first time it was a major pain trying to fish the tooth out of the glass in the dark quietly so after that I made sure they used a glass that had a matching one and switched the tooth glass with one containing the money :-) Then there was the time I came home to find one child hysterical as a newly-lost tooth had gone down the bathroom sink. So we wrote a nice letter to the Tooth Fairy, telling her where the tooth was so she could use her magical powers to get it out. It worked ;-)

From what I understand, it depends on the extent and location of the chip. I once chipped a tooth, and the dentist said I was lucky because that it didn't require a root canal. He just put a crown on it--that was many years ago, and I haven't had any problems with it since.

I know how you feel. I chipped a tooth Sunday. I went to the dentist today, I wasn't hurting so they put in a temporary filling until Thursday when they are going to put on a $691.00 crown. About 1/3 of my tooth chipped off, I know my dentist would never do a root canal on a chipped tooth. Good luck!

Get a second opinion. It sounds like the dentist you went to just needs money in his pocket. Also, I just had a root canal done and my dentist did not do it but sent me to a specialist because he didn't know if one could be done. It could and it was done by the specialist. So, a second opinion can't hurt especially if you don't have any pain.

If the break is too close to the nerve, the trauma could cause the nerve to flair up.
The location, and nearness to the nerve, usually determines need for a RC. An x-ray would verify.

foggi is right. I had a root canal 'go bad' after 10 yrs or so, which meant another RC AND a new crown- my bank account and I cried all month!
