He's in the final All Star playoffs, in an hour. One of the teams will be #1.

This is his LAST YEAR before moving on to high school, this fall.

GO Parke Jr, the pitcher!

Got my ice water, neck fan, sun hat and off I go!

My "early" garden was a bust, even with shadecloth on parts of it, though I may have waited too long before shading. I grew 4 kinds of corn, all supposed to be heat & drought tolerant & got nary an ear, but it bloomed. On the other hand, my fall garden did well & I managed to get at least some tomatoes. My winter garden is peculiar--lettuce & some greens bolting, broccoli making loose heads, etc. In January. Just enough cold weather for my cabbage to start heading finally. I have planted a couple of cool weather tomatoes in hopes they will survive, but the others stay in for now. Most of the black tomatoes will continue to produce in heat & a few others. I find myself freezing more now so I know I will have it. Last year was a sure cure for complacency!

I can't bring myself to photograph them, but most of my roses look like HoovB's example. The biggest bloom ever, here, for R. banksia lutea was dried to tiny yellow crisps. And while poor "Grandmother's Hat" and "De la Vina Mystery" keep pumping out blooms, they turn into potpourri as they open. :-( Secret Garden Musk Climber has produced a massive blast of white blooms -- but don't look to closely . . . the dry air has crisped the lovely once-yellow stamens. "Historic Powell House" (?'Baronne Prevost'?) is a rare bright spot, and I sure welcome it.

i'd add to this list: cherry tomatoes (never too late, if you can find plants or get them started indoors), okra (mmmmmmm... okra.... spiny AND mucilaginous, as manature pointed out to me recently), yardlong beans, and sweet potatoes. check out southern exposure for all these, except sweet potatoes, which you can start from store-bought ones (just google: "starting sweet potato slips"). i have yardlong beans in my yard (just one plant right now) -- it's a beautiful plant, with great flowers and it sneers at heat and humidity. you can eat it young as a green bean, or let it go and harvest the peas (beans) to eat fresh. they are really tasty either way (but i am a bean lover).

it's always like a heat wave in orlando LOL but that's our normal :-) going to mid 90's today, humidity near 99% (as usual). last summer we set a heat record, 110 days straight at 90 or above then last winter set record cold with both lowest temps ever recorded and longest length of time at record cold. i was sure we were in for a record summer after a hot spring but it's been pretty normal thou a bit dry. norms right now are 94/77 for 2 more months then we trend down :-) the other evening i put a hygrometer from inside the house out on the lanai, it shot up to 99% humidity in a minute LOL brought it back inside after 15 minutes and it went down to 65% LOL that's dry for us :-) it had not even rained that day! ~ liz

On those really hot days that we spend at the ball park watching grandkids...I always take a wet towel (one I've cut in three long strips) and put them in a cooler with ice water. Wring it out and put it on my neck.

Or those neck coolers work too.

Oh, I hope his team wins. It would be great to finish his "career" on top. Be careful of the heat, dear girl! Hope you can find some shade.

P. S. Both our babies will start high school this fall. It's exciting but I wish my DGS was 8 again.

Well, it wasn't the END! Just the elimination process and they WON.

Now two games tomorrow, in the sweltering heat, starting at 1:00.

Gnats were starting to bother me around 7ish!
