I have one of those metal stands that you hang ornaments from (like Christmas tree ornaments, but not for Christmas). It has four umbrella like hangers that come out of the top. This works good for short neclaces but not long ones. I have some longer ones hanging from the corners of my dresser mirror.

You could use one of those wooden wall hangers with pegs on it, like the ones you sometimes see with dipped candles hanging from the pegs. Or you could make one with a decorative wooden back with cup hooks screwed in it. That could be done in a really pretty way.

I use plastic sandwich bags for my good gold chains: jeweler taught me this.

You can put two in a plastic bag that you pinch to seal, have a little bit of each chain laying out of the bag, and then pinch to seal, keeping the necklace on the outside separate. Eliminate tangles. Now these are short chains.

I do this all this time, and especially when I travel.

One chain has a diamond pendant, and the other has my childhood baby heart on a chain.

He told me this at least 6 0r 7 years ago.

I use a doll stand....you know the stands that collector dolls come with? I just slide the chains onto the ring that used to hold a doll in the stand.

I use tiny plastic bags for the fine necklaces. I get those bags with blouses I buy with extra buttons in them, etc. I no longer have a tangled mess of necklaces.

I hang all mine from a hand towel ring that is in my bathroom. That way they never get all tangled up and I can see them all hanging there when deciding which one to wear.

I got rid of my large jewelry box and now I use a hanging jewelry organizer for my necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, watches etc. I bought this from The Container Store and it has 80 clear vinyl pockets (40 on each side). I usually wrap my thin, chains in a little bit of tissue to keep them from tangling before putting them in the pocket.

I use a battery operated tie organizer that I picked up at a garage sale. It holds dozens of necklaces and when you flip the switch, they go around - kind of like the clothes at the dry cleaners :) The manual tie organizers work too, you just have to spin them around by hand. Works for any length necklaces.

Socks - I've recommended that to some of my girlfriends and they've always liked it. It's easy to see everything since the pockets are clear. The only downside is that the pockets aren't roomy enough for large necklaces that aren't flexible. I only have one of those so I just leave it in the box in my lingerie drawer.

I use Command hooks. They work great and if you need to, you can remove and re-arrange them.

My friend took a pretty branch from a tree in her yard and spray painted it silver. She put it in a pretty vase filled with marbles and sat it on her dresser. It looks great and holds a ton of necklaces, since the branch had many different branch things.

My DD has a white plastic closet hanger that has hooks on it. I couldn't find any online, but here is a tie hanger that works the same way.

Oh heyyyyyyyy now I am wondering what I did with all those old wooden hangers! Darn I threw a bunch out but think I saved a few. Hmmmm I am going to go look. That would be great for the big clunky ones!!

I have a pegboard mounted to one of the closet walls with hooks in it (garage-tool-type hooks). Works great - plus I painted it black so the necklaces really show up well.

Where ever we have lived, I either hang a cork bulletin board and hang my jewelery from either push pins or T pins. In one home, I bought 3 acoustic ceiling tiles, attached them to the wall, edged them with lace, and used t pins to hold the jewelry. The tile material was soft enough, I could just push the posts from ear rings into it too. It was decorative as well as useful. dottie
