I picked up some Bobs red mill bountiful black bean soup mix which consists of dry beans a combo of black beans, black eye peas, navy beans and pearled barley. I put them into the slow cooker with chopped onions and rotel tomatoes, garlic, water and broth, and a bunch of ham meat and hocks, plus seasonings. It sure is smelling great.
I have never tried this product before but I bought several different. ones recently at Big Lots.

Ravencajun, those beans sound really good--especially with all you add-ons! I've been meaning to tell you I made your red beans and rice earlier this week and they were excellent--just a little too spicy for us. We're wimps! Big Lots is a great place to try new foods. I could spend an afternoon just in the food aisles!

Glenda, your lunches are always so good. I'm not a big fan of yellow squash but love the word "creamy". Any kind of fish makes me happy.

patti: Our roles have now been reversed. For weeks I tried to peddle our extra rain to other parts of the country, and you needed rain. Now, it's terribly dry here in my part of Ohio and you're getting the rain.

Relatives from England are visiting our family. We had a picnic today, with all the traditional family covered dishes. I brought some home with me. Don't need one single bite right now.

My landlady and a friend were working all day in the upstairs apartment. I invited them for dinner and made taco salad. They loved it!

I tried a new recipe for black bean and corn salad. Yummy.

This was another unplanned supper with four of the kids and Grandbaby here. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, broccoli, mac and cheese, biscuits and for dessert peach dump cake and ice cream. I had iced tea to drink. It has been a long day, still no rain. Getting warmer out too.

We went to the Olive Garden tonight. Hubby Ivan and I both brought home enough leftover food for another meal. I had the cheese/meat raviolli. The food was delicious.

We had finished up all the leftovers this week (tilapia and chicken & green chile enchiladas), so we had an easy spaghetti and meatballs. Quick and everyone will eat it!

Leftovers. Thursday we barbequed chicken and baby back ribs. We had a 64th birthday party for hubby's sister.

They found my best friends nephew in California dead. He had been in a group home. He was schizsophrenic I think. He was 41. They brought the ashes back to SD for burial. SHe invited me up for supper before the wake last night. The family calls me their other sister. We had spinach and fruit salad, lasagna made in one of those big electic roaster,marinated bean salad, garlic toast, relishes and desserts. Ir was really nice.

ravencajun, how did the soup turn out? I bought some of the Bobs red mill bountiful black bean soup mix. I like the sound of your additions.

Also, would you mind reposting your recipe for the red beans and rice. I searched for it, but could not find it.
