Howdy rjinga, this might be one of the threads you're remembering. Greenhouse shadecloth I have a post in that thread with a link to a website that caused me to be confused on the same question. The website does mention Aluminet being used to hold in heat, but cuestaroble was kind enough to explain that the website was likely referring to the practice of installing the Aluminet on the inside of the greenhouses like a big ceiling drape or curtain -- as some large commercial greenhouses do. Some big greenhouses have systems that allow the "solar curtain" (that Stressbaby mentioned) to be pulled open during the day, so light can enter and warm things up, and then pulled closed at night, so the Aluminet can reflect the heat back down into the structure. Of course, this kind of application doesn't apply to our little HFGH hobby greenhouses, where most of us go through a lot of effort just to attach it to the outside in a sturdy way. I think this is one of those confusing issues that varies a lot depending on where we are, how intense our sun is, and what kind of plants we grow in the GH during the winter. Last winter, I had my 40% Aluminet on the inside of my greenhouse (trying to avoid wind problems) and the light level was just right for my plants. However, we have intense sun here, even in winter, and I'll bet in other climates it would block too much light. Right now I have 50% Aluminet on the outside of my GH roof, trying to better protect my HFGH panels from UV deterioration problems. During the hottest part of our summer, I also had 40% Aluminet draped on the inside of the roof as well. (As you can tell I am still experimenting and learning.) Now that the sun is less horrific, I have the interior 40% layer down, and I'm still deciding if the remaining 50% outside layer will block too much light for me during winter. I think it might, but I'm not sure yet. I'm not looking forward to messing with my shadecloth either...but I'll probably be out there on a ladder saying bad words and making adjustments. I haven't found an easy answer to this one yet...the sun intensity changes so much here from summer to winter that I am pretty sure I can't escape making shadecloth changes to accomodate the seasons (unfortunately.) I'm hoping after I get another year or two under my belt I'll have some kind of a system figured out.

Beautiful big plant. The structure sure looks like grandduke supreme or the plant that me and my friend have which I am thinking is GDS now. I have a baby plant that is 1ft size but my friends looks just like yours. Where did you buy the plant from? I have also noticed the if the bud is at terminal section it tends to be big in size than the once that grow near other plant internode sections. Based on my experience for a year and above with this plant, it is definitely a must have for all fragrant gardners. It grows 3 times faster than regular GD in pots. This assessment is based on climatic conditions in my area, flolida it should be much easy to manage due to tropic kind weather.

Following. I just purchased another Miele today. My 2002 Miele is having trouble pumping water out and restarting over and over isn't in my game plan. You may have noticed from other posts that I was debating whether I wanted another Miele. After careful consideration, I decided that another MIELE was the way to go. Especially since they're offering a free 5 yr extended warranty through Nov. 30th. Since someone here recommended the MIELE tabs, I've used 1/2 tab. Previously I used 1 tablespoon of Cascade powder (old formula). Early on a MIELE service tech told me not to believe the suggested amount of detergent and 1 tablespoon was appropriate. I have never had a problem with cleaning nor had any build up on the walls of the machine. I hope that the new MIELE concierge service will install the machine properly and get my salt levels correct. It's my assumption that the initial machine installers were poorly trained and never set things up correctly. My MIELE tabs are cut and stored in an open box under the kitchen sink. I have never had an issue with dampness or diminished cleaning ability.

I have trouble growing most milkweed...seems to hate our heavy clay soil. Tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica ) is about the only one that does well for me. It doesn't always overwinter in my zone 7, but it does self sow and comes back rather prolifically from seed each year. The monarch cats absolutely LOVE it! This time of year, there are usually multiple caterpillars on every plant (and I have several dozen plants). It's red & yellow coloring is rather loud, so wouldn't blend well in some garden color schemes, and some non-desirable garden critters love it, too (particularly aphids, but I don't bother to knock them off and they don't seem to hurt its ability to thrive)...but if anyone else has issue growing milkweed and wants to try this cultivar, I'm sure there will be plenty of seed I can gather soon. I would be happy to share.
