Sounds like it could be messy with lots of people walking around the store eating mashed tacos with plastic forks. I hate plastic forks!

But then it also sounds yummy!

We've had those before...also had some that were not taco but with thick chili and cheddar cheese on top of the frito's

I just saw this method at a website recently. They suggested it for picnics and kids lunches for which it sounds good. I think walking is a bad term for it. A soft shell taco is something easy to eat while standing/walking. I think it'd be a mess waiting to happen by walking around trying to eat it from a bag. I know I wouldn't want to be doing mop duty that day! At least with a plate you can hold it under you. Similar to a taco salad. Good but far from easy to eat, especially with a fork. Trying to pick up the chips with a fork from a small bag... I'd put up a lot of displays for Tide-2-Go and stain sticks! Maybe advertise free lunch for the dogs that day? Feed the pooches and clean the floors in one sweep.

You can put a ladle full of chili in there, a bit of cheese and the other fresh things and have a "Frito Pie"" Yum I love them.

I think the idea of a Taco-to-go sounds great.

Maybe I'm missing something though. What kind of store are they walking around in? Couldn't they just take the walking Taco and go somewhere else to eat it?

Sounds like a fun thing that could be adapted in several ways. If I were doing this, I would use a LARGE plastic spoon. And offer a handi-wipe with it.

Now I'm wanting a Taco Salad!

Sounds good to me. Like Ruthie said, I've eaten many frito pies out of the bag.

They sell them at games around here by the boat load! And they sell for $3 to $4 a bag. It is the bigger sized bag (individual serving though)

You cut the Dorito bag down the side - not across the top - so it has a bigger opening. Then give the bag a little squeeze to crush up the chips a bit. Then a generous scoop of the taco meat, a scoop of cheese (the liquid kind works best) and their choice of toppings like lettuce, sour cream, salsa etc.

I think the secret to it not being super messy is crushing the chips a bit before adding the meat.

Stick a plastic fork in it and your good to go! They are not messy at all, and a real meal in itself.

Those are delicious! They sell them at basketball games here for either $3.50 or $4.50, I can't remember which, I think $4.50 and then a pop to go with it is $3.50. Besides being expensive they are full of fat and calories but they sure are good. My friend and I sneak either Diet Coke or a bottle of water into the games in our purses or coat pockets.

Sounds good! I can't see them making any money though selling them for $1.00.

I"ve never heard of these before, but they sound interesting! Maybe I'll try them at home one night! DH would be quite surprised to see a bag of Doritoes on his dinner plate!

I've had them but wasn't too impressed. We have so many authentic Taquerias and Taco trucks around I'm spoiled. I can get fresh made delicacies for around $1.50 each.

They would not even be in the same ballpark as authentic Mexican food, pardon the pun, LOL!

They used to see these at the high school hockey games back in Owatonna, MN. But I think they cost more then a dollar. Yummy!

It was a fund raiser and the proceeds were donated by Target, so the $1 was really a donation. I'm going to buy the makings today and try it. #1....it sounds like fun, and want to try it to see how it works, if it is OK, I'll make it for my grandkids when they come. #2.... I LOVE TACOS...TACO SALAD...TACO ANYTHING. LOL Dottie

Wildchild, what is a taco truck? I'm curious.

Mickey - A taco truck is a small van equipped for food service. Similar to the catering trucks that come to job sites. What makes it a Taco Truck is it specializes in Mexican foods like Tacos, Tamales and Burritos as opposed to hot dogs, burgers and sandwiches and the like. Some travel around to different sites and some have semi-permanent spots where they might set up awnings and a few tables and chairs.

You've seen food trailers at fairs probably.A taco truck is more mobile. It is what a trailer is to a motor home.

We have a large Mexican population so sometimes you even see people selling fresh tamales out of a cooler in parking lots. Not really sure of the legal aspects but some are soooo good.

Walking tacos are common around here at local festivals like the Covered Bridge or Round Barn or Blueberry here in Indiana..

Thanks Wildchild! I wish they had those here. Like you said, around here there are only food trailers at fairs and festivals.
Last summer though, we went to garage sales and one of the houses was a Mexican family selling tacos too...we tried them and they were so good! They had cut up potatoes in them, too, and they were so good! I wish I could get an order of them every Friday for dinner..haha.
