She's not in pain anymore...DFN

I'm so saddened to tell her KT family that my special Daughter-in-law, Dir_ty Fingernails, lost her battle with cancer this afternoon. We loved her so very much and what a wonderful gift she was to our family. Dottie

Dottie - so sorry that the fight had to end this way. But, as you said, she is no longer in pain, and that's a good thing.

My thoughts and prayers include you and your family for sure.

My Pain of loss

Applebees, I am so sorry to hear that you have lost your mother. I lost my mother recently too and also my father this year to cancer too, leukemia. I was with my parents when they died and it was pretty scary for me. I miss my parents every day. There is so much that I want to show them and tell them. But I am so glad that I had them as parents and wouldn't have traded our time together for anything in the world. I also wanted to tell you that I have three children. My two boys are 12 and 7 and my daughter is 3. The way you talked about your mother really touched me. It is my LIFE'S GOAL to be loved and adored by them the way you have your mother. I cherish my children and would do anything for them - run into a burning building, climb the highest mountain, lay in front of a train if I needed to -to protect them. They are my greatest accomplishment. I know your mother felt that way about you. What a good son you have been. She will always be with you. Just whisper her name.

Heavy painful periods, hysterectomy?
Q
Comments (3)
Hi nannie! I don't usually look at this site but I just had a hysterectomy in July so I was wondering around looking for information. Before I had my hysterectomy I'd had a very heavy period for about 6 weeks. I was willing to put up with anything to not have surgery. That was a mistake. I lost so much blood that my hemoglobin dropped to 6, I beleve the low end of normal is 11. I was in a great deal of pain and couldn't really do anything. Too worn out, out of breath and in so much pain I couldn't move. I ended up in the hospital and got 2 units of blood and then surgery the next day. My uterus was big too but I've had kids so that helped and they where able to do it vaginally. You know you can't go on the way you are now, beleve me I tried hard to keep going thinking it would some how take care of itself. It didn't and it would of been a whole lot better if I had planned this thing out and schedaled things instead of ending up with an emergency situation. I'm 52 so I'm a bit older then you. They gave me a hormone patch which has helped me. I hadn't had any hot flashes or problems with memopause before my surgery but I had them take everything and I sure have had some problems after. I plan to cut the amount of hormone down in the future and eventually get off of the hormones completely. But not now I need to recover first before I can deal with anything more. Well thats my 2 cents!!

Pain management for dogs
Q
Comments (11)
Awww you poor dear! You must be out of your mind with worry. When my dog (Saint Bernard/ Black Lab mix) had surgery on his hind leg I kept him on a short leash tied to the couch. I iced his leg three times a day for 15 minutes. We also did light stretching exercises by moving his leg in and out gently. It helped with the swelling. He also had a little fluid retention but that went away in a few days. He was also on a light seditive and pain pills for a week. If your dogs swelling and fluid retention is really bad and leaking it could be a bad sign and I would take her to the emergency vet if you have one available. They may put her on antibiotics. It takes time for them to use the leg after a major surgery but a re-evaluation on Monday wouldn't be a bad idea. After 4 months, my dog is still going through physical therapy to strengthen his leg. Best wishes, Edna

What a pain!! Sorry its long

FD hits the nail on the head. Its not so much that I mind watching my sister while sm is at the hospital with my dad. What I mind is that she wants to inconvenience everyone else so she does not have to get up earlier. And like I said if my sister went to bed at a decent time I would have just let her sleepover, but they chose to make midnight her bedtime. And they chose the "family bed" option. And they chose to allow her to get used to never falling asleep without someone in bed with her. I have a family of my own and too much going on to accomodate that. But what ended up happening is that sm called me and asked if they could just sleepover with my sister in our guest room. So they did. They stayed up late with my sister while my family went to sleep. SM did call from the hospital saying they were keeping my dad overnight because of the pain after the procedure. She asked me to babysit overnight and I declined because I had class that night till late and I had a workshop all day today. She was a little ticked I could tell. But I had my other sister babysitting my kids till I got home that night. And all my kids were going to be in school all day today while I attended a workshop and I had no way to watch my sister all day. I think that she expected me to volunteer my husband for babysitting. But he sleeps during the day because he works afternoons and sometimes midnights.

I remember her posting here as well, and she was a special woman, and you and she and Dok had a very special bond.

Dear Dot Mom,

I send my deep and heartfelt condolences now as you bid farewell to this person whom you loved so much.

During the next few days you will be thinking of a number of occasions when you shared that love, I'm sure (as you will through the remaining years of your own life) ... and will agree, no doubt, with the poet who said, " ... it is better to have loved and lost - than never to have loved at all".

Good wishes to you and Radio Dok, and the others who loved her ... I pray that God's peace may fill your hearts at this difficult time.

This is the first chance I've had to get to the Table today, and as soon as I "sat down" my eyes fell on the subject line... I gasped out loud and immediately my eyes welled up with tears because I knew what I was about to read...

My heart aches for everyone who knew and loved DFN, especially her beloved Radio Dok and you. I'm glad she's not suffering any longer, and I know her spirit lives on. She will always have a special place at the Table.
