Good thoughts for our son, Steve, please.

DH and I just got home from haircuts, etc. DS had been trimming shrubs with elec. trimmers, left a note said he cut left hand fingers, had to call 911. DH went up to the hosp, I called, he's going to need stitches. Poor guy, never gets a break, first the gambling, (under control), now this. He has no insurance, no nothing. Can't wait till DH gets him home.

Oh wow, what a heartbreak. He needs to heal up, and with your help, get back to his own self.
Hopefully the electrics didn't do too much damage.
scary at either rate.

The funeral was this morning. It was beautiful, & it was the most heartbreaking thing I ever saw. Beautiful church, with beautiful flowers in tiers upon tiers, filling the entire end of the sanctuary where the pulpit was.. & 4 caskets, 1 just about half the size of the others. 3 ministers, 4 eulogies, 1 for a 6-year-old & 1 for a 3-year-old. What can you say in a eulogy for a first-grader? for a toddler? They said Michael was smart as a whip & loved the water & asked pointed questions & never met a stranger. They said little Landon was born in perpetual motion & brought a smile to every face. & Landon, a surprise baby, may have saved his mother's life: Had she not had a sonogram, the cancer that was growing inside her might not have been discovered until too late. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, prayers, & good wishes. It means a lot to me & to my family.

Hi again Again, thanks for all of your positive thoughts for my Howie. I have been trying to be as positive as I can about all of it. I went and saw Howie yesterday. They brought him out to me. I was so happy to see him up and walking around. When he saw me he lit up like a christmas tree and wagged his little stubby tail. I was able to visit with him outside and then inside on a mat he slept by me for a while. My daughter and my best friend were there also. He was very happy to see them as well! I was not able to get him to eat any of the goodies I brought him, but he had eaten a bit earlier so they were happy with that. My DH went and saw him last night after work and everyone thought he looked even perkier by then. My dh said he was looking around the waiting room for me and whinning. He had to be dragged back to the critical care unit when his visit with dh was done and I had to walk all the way back with him because he wanted to come home. It broke my heart a bit, but I was really glad to see him being stubborn also. I told the vet that his stubborn attitude would help him out. Another vet saw him up and walking and was sooo excited and saying what a fighter he is. The vet called today to give me an update about how he did last night and told me that he was eating a lot!!! He requested that I bring two more cooked chickens in (not the bones just the meat). He is on an appetite stimulant and I am sure that helps, but I feel if he eats the other stuff will hopefully follow. He is not out of the woods yet by a long shot, but he is doing well. Believer, Howie is a 110 lb rottweiler. If you have ever read the Good Dog Carl books he is sooo much like that. He loves his family, his backyard, and his ball!! He is a real hunk!

Glenda, I talked with my sister about your situation. She has gone through the same problems as you with hip replacement, complications and bad edema. She told me to share what her doctor advised. He said that the number one best thing to do with edema is to rest with the legs and feet (which were badly swollen like yours) resting above her heart every day. She would rest on the couch with her feet and legs atop one of the couch back cushions placed under her legs. Every minute that you can do that will make for improvement. Do it as often and for as long as you can, above your heart!

Glad to hear it isn't the gambling but so sorry to hear about the hand! Hand is hopefully easier to treat!

Is he in Clarskburg or does Fairmont have its own hospital? The Clarksburg hospital is wonderful to take small paymnets. They also offered us a 40% discount if we paid in full. Luckily, that was when the rebates were coming back so we had the $ to take advantage of the offer.

Ouch....I've done that before.....I can still see the scars on my fingers. I probably needed stitches...but not always that smart.

Hope he heals quickly.

I'm sorry to hear of his injury.

The hospital billing department is required to let him fill out a hardship application, evaluate it and put him on a sliding scale, with payment options, based on his income.

Gosh, I know you must feel as bad as he does. He sure didn't need that to happen. Hopefully he's home now and all is well.

Sorry to hear that! Hand injuries can be so painful. I hope it heals quickly.

If it does end up being a private pay, always ask for a discount. Every hospital I've ever dealt with has been prepared to grant a substantial discount when asked.

Wow- how scary! I hope everything is ok. I can tell you from our experience here in SC, we were able to get some discounts when DH had surgery for his kidney stones. They take payments too.
