Dear mom1sm2,

I have said a prayer for Howie. Please let me know how things turn out for him. I have 2 cocker spaniels and they are my babies and a very important part of the family. Some times I look into my little 4 legged soul mate's eyes and tear up because I know that some day they will be gone. They are both 9 and quite unique little individuals.

Pets are so special. I hope Howie does well.

Howie and you have my thoughts and prayers. I've had a couple of wonderful dogs and it's just the worst when they are sick.

We recently got a dog (in August) and he has been a blessing! I am not even a dog person and I LOVE this little guy. Our kids adore him.

I know how close we get to our pets---I am praying for Howie and you, too!

Another prayer said for Howie. As the mom of two poodles I know how much they mean to us. My little boy has hepatitus and atypical Cushings and we are treating it aggressively with meds and supplements and he is doing good except that both his back knees are out of socket. We can't have surgery on them because of his hepatitus. I will be thinking of Howie and sending good thoughts for his recovery. Please keep us updated on his condition.

Hi all

Thanks so much for your thoughts. Howie came out of surgery okay yesterday. He rested comfortably and must have done well last night or they would have called. They will call today with an update and I will go visit him. He is a very large and powerful dog and he looks so proud that it is hard to see him like this. He has a few days before we will know if all of this has worked. Thanks for all of your good thoughts. I appreciate it.

Glad he came out of surgery fine, hope he recovers well.

Hi again

Again, thanks for all of your positive thoughts for my Howie. I have been trying to be as positive as I can about all of it.

I went and saw Howie yesterday. They brought him out to me. I was so happy to see him up and walking around. When he saw me he lit up like a christmas tree and wagged his little stubby tail. I was able to visit with him outside and then inside on a mat he slept by me for a while. My daughter and my best friend were there also. He was very happy to see them as well! I was not able to get him to eat any of the goodies I brought him, but he had eaten a bit earlier so they were happy with that. My DH went and saw him last night after work and everyone thought he looked even perkier by then. My dh said he was looking around the waiting room for me and whinning. He had to be dragged back to the critical care unit when his visit with dh was done and I had to walk all the way back with him because he wanted to come home. It broke my heart a bit, but I was really glad to see him being stubborn also. I told the vet that his stubborn attitude would help him out. Another vet saw him up and walking and was sooo excited and saying what a fighter he is.

The vet called today to give me an update about how he did last night and told me that he was eating a lot!!! He requested that I bring two more cooked chickens in (not the bones just the meat). He is on an appetite stimulant and I am sure that helps, but I feel if he eats the other stuff will hopefully follow. He is not out of the woods yet by a long shot, but he is doing well.

Howie is a 110 lb rottweiler. If you have ever read the Good Dog Carl books he is sooo much like that. He loves his family, his backyard, and his ball!! He is a real hunk!

Thought I would post an update for all of you who sent thoughts and prayers our way. Thank you so much for that I really appreciate it.

Howie is doing really well!!!! He gets to come home today!!! He still has one drain, but the infection is cleared/clearing up and they feel he will do better at home. I am so excited to get him home. He is such a proud guy and it has been hard to see him with tubes and all of that crap attached to him. I have been visiting him everyday for an hour and every day he seemed to get better. Yesterday he was much more like himself. I was so scared that I had put him through so much and he may never be able to enjoy what we have done, but since he beat the infection it seems he will be able to come home and enjoy his life with us. We are anxious to have him home.

That is wonderful news! Rottweilers are such beautiful dogs. It sounds like Howie is quite the handsome guy. I'm so glad to hear that it is working out well for him.

I'm dog sitting for a woman that I met from an online site called Snowdays. We communicated for a year or so and found out that we live in the same part of town so when she said she needed someone to watch her little sheltie when she and her hubby went to Az. I said I'd do it. Little "Shelby" is crippled in her back legs so she needs extra lovin while mom and dad are gone. She is such a dolly.
