Good thoughts for one of our KTers

Please send some good thoughts to my special Daughter-in-law, also known on the KT as Dir_ty fingernails. She has had a stroke either during the night or this morning. My Son took her to the emergency room suffering from head pain and dizziness. At first they were going to send her home but the Dr decided to walk her up and down the hall and when he saw that she was dizzy, he ordered a CT and they found she had a stroke in the back of her head. She was transported by ambulance down to Minneapolis, about 2 1/2 hrs from us here in northern Mn. Hopefully I will know more tomorrow. Dottie

I will certainly be sending special thoughts and prayers for her to make a complete and speedy recovery. That is scary, and I'm glad she had a good doctor. Keep us posted on her progress. Hugs!

Well, she is certainly trying us that is for sure! She ate part of a sock today - so not sure what that will do to her. She ended up throwing it up so I am hoping that means her body just wanted to get it out of her stomache. I hope it is not a symptom of something worse yet to come. She is on a small dose of prednisone every 2 days for about 12 days in total (it decreases to a quarter tablet in a few days) Her appetite is still there, still perky, but man I am just absolutely on edge. Not sure when I will be able to relax. Thanks for all your input and thoughts!

I hope she continues to improve. As a vet, I am very careful to give every patient a thorough risk assessment and vaccinate only for those diseases that show high risk. Even so, I still have had a few vaccine reactions. The risk of reaction needs to be less than the risk of actually contracting the disease. I never vaccinate indoor only cats for FeLV, and after a year of age I don't even vaccinate the outdoor kitties for it either. OTOH, any dog who gets groomed or boarded on a regular basis keeps the bordetella vaccine updated every 6 months. Which rabies vaccine was used in Bindi? The recombinant rabies vaccine is considered safer than the killed vaccine because of the addition of adjuvents in the killed vaccine. I am just curious because currently the hospital where I work has only the killed rabies vaccine, and I am pushing to get the recombinant one for cats.

:) 60 Doesn't seem as old as I once thought, YL! We started at the same age 19 & 20, but we pretty much pulled the trigger in rapid succession.. so, now Holly has her masters, Liz is a para-pro and Sam... well, he's dangerously close to becoming a frog like his father. OAH - Who's cued Pandora to "Lou Reed & The Velvet Underground" since about 9:00 this morning. There's probably one glass of Pinot left in the bottle? Maybe not.

Beautifully written. Beautiful memories, too. Happy memories are always worth hanging on to . . . or worth reaching back at half-forgotten ones to savor once again. I grew up with a dining room table like that. We ate at it for every meal. Played games on it. Did homework at it. Gathered around it for work and play. Everyday meals, holidays and celebrations. We all have good memories of those times. Married now for 32 years myself, I made sure that my family also had a dining room table like that. We ate/eat at it for pretty much every meal. I believe that it's a mother's job to create happy memories for her family. I've been doing my best at it now for 32 years. Thanks for sharing such a lovely, nostalgic piece, Mtn. Lynn

Oh, dear. These things can happen so quickly. They're good about treating strokes these days; I hope she makes a full recovery--and quickly!

Oh what a shock! I hope everything is fine and they caught it quickly. When they treat it quickly and when it's not too severe it can be essentially a complete recovery. Here's hoping that's the case. No matter what, all the best to D.F. and your whole family Dotmom! Keep us posted!

Oh my...I'm sorry to read this...I hope everything is going to be okay...

Have you heard any updates...

When my husband had his stroke...as soon as they were sure it was a stroke...they gave him that shot...it is supposed to stop anymore damage and help to lessen what damage has already happened. But I think that shot is for stroke victims that had a blood clot stroke and not aneurism stroke.

I will be keeping her in prayer...
