I dread being home.
Comments (25)roobear, thanks so much for letting me know. I've passed on the info to my mom and she was shocked . . .she hates taking medicine for this very reason (side effects!!!) and avoids it whenever possible. She's really happy for the info. susan: I am so sorry for your pain! I wish none of us had ailments. I keep trying to think of the Buddhist mindset, that while pain is inevitable, suffering does not have to be. sable: I never knew that tinnitus could be genetic! I have been so concerned with it that, like I mentioned, I have gone to great lengths to protect my ears, but in this society, I find it hard . . .we live in such a noisy world. Even at places like the ZOO there are loud noises (and I don't mean the roaring of a lion). I am so glad to hear that your DS and DH have reached a point of making peace with it. yvette: Yes, I agree. Sometimes medicine does more harm than good, that is for sure. My mom got it not from medicine . . .but from a bad cold. I wonder if that sometimes could be how others get it as well, and if it is a coincidence that they've taken a certain medicine? Amy: This is such good news! My DH bought me a neti pot last night, but then my sister told me some are better than others, so I have not used it yet in case I need to return it. Does the brand matter or are they pretty much the same? Yesterday I kept in mind what everyone said, and it was a much better day. I just tried not to think about it (helped that I was out with the kids for a long time) and then at night, I was able to sleep with the windows open and enjoy the crickets outside instead of the mechanical noise in my head. I actually slept very well! I credit the advice from all of you for that!...See MoreAnother Touchy Personal Health Question
Comments (54)Thank you, IloveRed, to the link of Forbes article. Here's an excerpt from that Forbes link: https://www.forbes.com/sites/matthewherper/2012/04/04/americas-gardasil-problem-how-politics-poisons-public-health/3/#4978b3012389 "They looked specifically at the terrible neurological disease called Guillain-Barré Syndrome, because it’s known that a swine flu shot given in the 1970s caused it. The rate of GBS reported for Gardasil was half what it was for other vaccines. In the U.S. the number of cases of cervical cancer is controlled by the fact that women get regular Pap smears. Among the most effective cancer screening tests ever invented, they catch precancerous growths before they turn into tumors. " THANK YOU, anele_gw, for the CBS news link, see excerpt https://www.cbsnews.com/news/gardasil-researcher-speaks-out/ "A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found while the overall risk of side effects appears to be comparable to other vaccines, Gardasil has a higher incidence of blood clots reported. Merck also says it's looking into cases of ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, reported after vaccination. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Merck is also monitoring the number of deaths reported after Gardasil: at least 32. The risks of serious adverse events including death reported after Gardasil use in (the JAMA article by CDC's Dr. Barbara Slade) were 3.4/100,000 doses distributed. The rate of serious adverse events on par with the death rate of cervical cancer. Gardasil has been associated with at least as many serious adverse events as there are deaths from cervical cancer developing each year. Dr. Harper says the side effects reported so far call for more complete disclosure to patients. She says they should be told that protection from the vaccination might not last long enough to provide a cancer protection benefit, and that its risks - "small but real" - could occur more often than the cervical cancer itself would. Parents and women must know that deaths occurred. Not all deaths that have been reported were represented in Dr. Slade's work, one-third of the death reports were unavailable to the CDC." https://www.cbsnews.com/news/gardasil-researcher-speaks-out/ From StrawChicago: I am a victim of horrible-suffering with the flu-shot in Dec. 2015. The pain was many times worse than childbirth, I had vertigo & bleeding nose & ears and could not drive for 2 months, in addition to pneumonia & paid near $800 from my own-pocket (after insurance paid thousands). My neighbor died of Lou Gehrig's Disease, I witnessed her going from a vibrant mid-30's woman to being paralyzed in a wheel-chair .. then a vegetative state in a nursing home for 6 months. She could not talk and answered questions by blinking her eyes. She died after 1 1/2 years of immense suffering and financial cost. Google Gardasil and you'll see the below: INFORMATION ABOUT GARDASIL 9GARDASIL®9 (Human Papillomavirus 9-valent Vaccine, Recombinant)helps protect girls and women ages 9 to 26 against cervical, vaginal, vulvar, and anal cancers and genital warts caused by 9 types of HPV. GARDASIL 9 helps protect boys and men ages 9 to 26 against anal cancer and genital warts caused by those same HPV types. GARDASIL 9 may not fully protect everyone, nor will it protect against diseases caused by OTHER HPV types or against diseases not caused by HPV. GARDASIL 9 does not prevent all types of cervical cancer, so it’s important for women to continue routine cervical cancer screenings. GARDASIL 9 is a shot that is usually given in the arm muscle. GARDASIL 9 may be given as 2 or 3 shots....See MoreEar plugs ... can't get them in
Comments (14)In answer to your question.... First, you need to ensure that you purchased ear plugs that are the right size for your ears. Unfortunately, they don't come in set sizes, but if you look at reviews on Amazon, for example, many times the reviewer will post photos of different ear plugs they've tried lined up side by side so you can see the difference. Sound really bothers me when I'm trying to get to sleep. We sleep with the big window in the master bedroom open every night. Open wide in Spring, Summer, and Autumn, and open just a little bit during the Winter. There is a year-round creek behind our lot, and the cacophony of bull frog sounds drives me nuts sometimes. And, on some warm Summer nights, the folks next door can get kinda loud while out on their patio with friends. When the wind is really strong I can't get to sleep, etc. I first tried the Drift to Sleep Ear Plugs Moldex (20 Pairs). But by morning my ear canals would be hurting because they felt too big. I do like the little carrying case that came with them, though. :-) I know the innards of my ears are small, because I have a comfort problem with nearly every ear bud I've ever tried when listening to music. So, then I ordered the Mack's Ear Care Slim Fit Soft Foam Ear Plugs (50 Pair). When the package arrived, I was disappointed to find that Amazon had sent a different type of Mack's ear plugs. I contacted Amazon's customer service and they told me just to keep the wrong product and immediately sent out the right product (which I received the next day). When the Slim Fit Ear Plugs arrived I compared them to the Drift to Sleep Ear Plugs and saw that they were, indeed slimmer. And, they were more comfortable than the Drift To Sleep, but I still thought "there's got to be something better." So, because I had them, I tried the "wrong" ear plugs that Amazon had sent. They're the Mack's Ear Care Ultra Soft Foam Earplugs (50 Pair). They're larger than the Slim Fit, but they're a different type of foam and they are much more comfortable. Having said all that.... Yes, it's important to roll the plug into a tight cylinder, but once you've done that you can't just put it in your ear -- you have to sort of open the ear canal. To do that, you need to pull up and slightly back on your ear. When inserting an ear plug into your left ear, use your right hand (arm over your head) to grab onto the top of your left ear and pull it diagonally up and back. You don't have to pull really hard -- it can only move so far. Many people (and I'm included in this) feel that it also helps to open your mouth when you insert the plug. The sketch on the instruction label on the jar of ear plugs shows the ear plug going straight in. I have found, however, that rather than aiming straight in, the plug goes in better if it's aimed very slightly forward. Repeat for your right ear, using your left hand to pull the ear up and back. Once you have the plug inserted, keep a finger tip on it for a few seconds while the foam expands to fill the ear canal. Then do the other ear. I have found that when I have an ear plug in both ears, I don't hear anything. And I mean anything. I don't hear the phone ring; I don't hear the alarm clock; I don't hear my husband talking-to-me-and-thinking-I'm-dead-because-I-don't-respond. Since I sleep mostly on my right side, I have found that using an ear plug only in my left ear works best. It's enough to block out any noise that disrupts my sleep, but still allows me to hear when and what I need to hear....See MoreHumor: So, what's wrong with you?
Comments (13)Back when I was a teenager and early 20s, I used to go to yoga camp with my mom. One time there, I met an elderly French couple. They were both in great shape. The man even climbed a palm tree that was over the tennis court where we had class, to get the coconuts off so they didn't fall on us. He had been a dentist during WWII, and he gave a guest lecture on how to keep our teeth healthy, and how to stay healthy in general. I remember he told us that "most people think of their body like a car, where one part goes and then another. But actually, if you take care of it, your body should be like a fine Swiss watch -- run perfectly, until the day it stops." I took his words to heart. I'm now in my 60s, with a lifetime of healthy eating habits, a regular yoga practice and, I recognize, a lot of luck. I don't have any of those ailments that Roz Warren wrote about. Certainly bad things can befall people through no fault of their own and some people are born with problems. But most people I hear complaining, especially about back and knee problems, are lugging around extra weight or don't take daily care to properly exercise their body. Just because something is sold at a grocery doesn't mean you should eat it. And if you take care of your body like the Lamborghini you were given at birth, instead of treating it like an old clunker, you'll likely be rewarded with a much more comfortable ride through life. That said, Roz Warren is a funny writer....See Moreoldgardener_2009
