I agree with you. Would he feel more manly if he wore a full backpack? I thought that since DS is grown, I wouldn't be doing all the holding, carrying etc. But the other day I looked down and there i was carrying about 6 things, and they had nothing! lol I will carry a small purse, and I don't have room for anything else! lol

Agree that you are old enough to do as you please, but so is he. Leave him alone, but set a rule about carrying things for him. Start saying "no". Then it's his choice.

PS, I think fanny packs look silly. I see them all the time on tourists around here who should **not** be calling attention to their waists.

If he carries a camera, get him a nice little camera bag. My husband does this to carry his camera, GPS, phone etc. If he wants to carry his weapon, get him a shoulder holster and make him wear it.

Stop carrying his stuff. If he wants to bring something, he needs to carry it.

I'm with sushipup on the fanny pack thing. I would only condone them for hiking and/or bike riding. They look silly otherwise.

If I were in your shoes, I would be understanding of your husband (ha) but kindly tell him that you don't intend on carrying your stuff AND his and that he needs to eliminate some of that extra junk he wants to carry around. Perhaps he could go get some cargo pants! Once he sees himself in a pair of those, he might decide that the waist pack is a better option.

I do think some fanny packs look more girly than others. Maybe he would carry a larger camera bag... which could hold his smaller camera as well as his other items? People would just assume he has a large camera.

My DH is diabetic. He reluctantly began using a fanny pack about 10 years ago to carry his insulin, syringes and testing supplies. He now admits that it is a handy accessory. Uses it for all that stuff that he used to palm off on me.

He has a camera bag but it's just one more thing to carry and it's one of the first things he hands to me. I think the fanny pack is the answer because it would easily fit in the pack with other things.

He has a backpack but that is larger than he really needs and he actually doesn't like wearing it on his shoulders.

PS while he does have a gun and does travel with it, he was joking about carrying it on his person.

Just get him a small hiking backpack.

DS Uses a fanny pack to carry his phone and other electronics with him I only use a fanny pack maybe a fancy purse if I'm going to a fancy place with only a few dollars and my DL in it

Lose the fanny pack. They are not too attractive. They look the worst when people wear them in the front about crotch level. When I was in Paris with my SO, he bought a bottle of liquor that I was not about to carry. It was getting heavy and uncomfortable in the plastic bag, which was cutting his fingers. He kept eyeing my travel bag, which looks more practical than feminine. Finally we decided to call it a Messenger Bag and then it would be okay for him to carry it with the bottle. I loved being free of it and handing my stuff to him. I always end up being the pack horse!

The only fanny pack I have is designed specifically as a concealed carry pack. It has a few other pockets for little things, too. If you got him one of those and he didn't carry a weapon, he'd have room for all his incidentals AND he'd have fast access to them, too, with the quick-tear zipper function. :)

They make smaller backpacks. I see a lot of college guys with one slung over one shoulder rather than carried on the back. I also see them with computer carrying cases carried cross-body style. I think either option looks a little hipper than a fanny pack.

My husband has had a few fanny packs but dislikes them but we were at Tues Morning one day and in all of the luggage and baggage he found this black textured fabric travel bag, it fits cross body has compartments built on it, his glass case and phone fit perfectly in them plus there is a bigger zipper compartment that has a folded up light weight nylon tote bag in it so you can take that bag out and carry a big sack full of stuff in that. He usually just takes that out and uses the pouch for his keys and stuff. It has carabiners on the sides on tabs to clip stuff to it, looks very Indiana Jones or world traveler like. The straps are all that webbing stuff and are adjustable. He loves this thing. I must carry a very small purse now since I am in the wheel chair I want one that I can clip onto the front and reach, not put it in the back and have to ask someone to get it out for me. So he knows I can not hold anything but my necessities in there.
We were at Steinmart last weekend and some well dressed man came up to him and asked him where on earth he had got that bag because he wanted one for his travels. Then the manager of the mens dept heard all that and he came to my husband and asked him also because they would like to carry the line.
He was just beaming! I know much better than to ever call it his purse!!! But it looks nothing like a purse and not one I would care to use, but it would be classified as unisex anyone could use it, there is nothing frilly or girly about it.

My husband could care less if someone with a small mind had something to say or think about him or it. He really is not bothered by that kind of stupidity.

Yes, there's a sort of 'satchel' that can be worn as a backpack or over one shoulder. I see some very manly-looking students using them.

My DS has an olive and black backpack with *diapers* in it! He's no sissy.

When I was a little girl I wanted to take my favorite dolly with me *everywhere*. My mother soon told me that if I wouldn't carry it I would have to leave my doll at home.
If your DH won't carry (whatever), he'll need to leave HIS dolls at home.

I looked up a lot of the concealed carry packs and they all look a lot like fanny packs so I will show him them and perhaps that will change his mind....Good suggestion Flamingo.

You all have to understand that I am not trying to harass him just to make it easier for him. There are times when hands free is good. Tourists use the packs for the same exact reason...

Back packs and cargo pants have been suggested. That idea works for me! If you travel to New Zealand, just don't call it a Fanny Pack!

My husband has carried a "bag" for quite a few years now. Not a fanny pack (although he has worn one in the past). He is particular about the type of bag and often will buy one before the prior one wears out if he spots one to his liking. Usually, it is a certain type of camera bag. He is "in the field" most of his working day and there are things he likes to have with him - camera, Palm, tape measure, eyeglasses, etc. It is as much a part of him as my purse is a part of me. When we are out shopping he might remove his wallet and put that in his pocket and leave the bag hidden in the car, but otherwise he carries it. It tickles me that instead of him asking me to carry things for him, I often say, "I'm not going to take my purse. Please carry my I.D."

I agree with Sushipup that fanny packs look silly. They were designed to be worn in back, just above the fanny but most wear them in front and make their waists or bellys look bigger. I carry a backpack over one shoulder when I go to the zoo or to any event where I need to carry water, a jacket, etc. My back hurt so much last week when we were walking around the zoo. I want to get one of those across body carriers.

I see men wearing over the shoulder bags all the time here in Seattle. Even smaller ones, which I call man-purses, but they don't look girly in any way, and neither do the guys carrying them.

Look specifically for "messenger bags for men". Those are even less girly than the man-purses. They are all perfectly acceptable here, although I have no clue about the rest of the country.

Have him look at some big ones, I don't think it would look feminine at all. I to have seen men carrying them while traveling. Check out some specialty or travel catalogs. Try Herringtons. Herringtons have a lot of specialty items for men. Google men's fanny packs. Maybe a camouflage one would work.

My brother is a big burly guy - he carries a rectanglular zippered camera bag over his shoulder with all his paraphenalia like his diabetic meds and testing kit,water, camera, lenses, iPod It is army green and not feminine looking at all.

I would rather see a man carry a bag than have bulging pockets that make pants look droopy - that isn't a good look.

If he has a tent-like shirt, he could wear it over the fanny pack ... though it'd be rather inconvenient to access it. When it's summer, he could wear it with the tail out, so it'd be a lot easier to get to the pack.

If he plans to visit Canada, he'd best leave the little gun at home, or they'll relieve him of it at the border. A friend who owned a handgun told me 35 years ago that he had to get a permit to carry his from his home to the shooting range. Gang members operate under different, self-arranged, rules.

Refuse to carry any more of his stuff.

Get him a big bag with a strap long enough that he can hang it over the right shoulder if he wants the bag to hang on the left.

How about a drawstring backpack, those ultralight (and cheap) things made out of nylon (I think). We have several, and I use them all the time to throw a few things in to take to the park or the beach, or when I don't want to carry a purse and don't need a full-sized backpack.

I get it - the way men hand us their stuff, so they are prepared but unencumbered. I try (not too successfully) to keep a neat handbag, then will end up with additional phone, reading glasses, sunglasses, what ever paperwork he may have had in his hand.

I don't like to carry a large bag either, and for those times when I really want hands free (like to take notes) I bought a cross body camera bag that I'll 'wear'. Another option I like and turn to a lot - vests with lots of pockets. Travel vests, camera vests, they serve double purpose since I'm seldom too warm.

Had you thought about a travel or camera vest for him? Travelsmith has a great one for both men and women. DH doesn't worry a whole lot about looking unmanly - pink doesn't scare him :) - and I think he'd 'wear' a cross body bag in special circumstances if I asked.

OT, but a friend of mine spent several weeks in Australia&New Zealand last year and was quickly cured of calling her purse on a belt a 'fanny' pack or bag. Apparently it has a different meaning there, and fanny isn't the rear view of someones anatomy but something we think of as much more private/personal womans body part - which caused her huge embarrassment.

My husband wears nothing but Cargo pants. Pockets everywhere. Sometimes he ends up carrying my things!

DH uses a small backpack- BTW, they're often referred to as "day packs" as many are designed to attach to a larger backpack and be removed for use during the day.

I would suggest a messenger bag or cargo pants.

I also love Scottevest jackets and vests. I have their jacket that has zip off sleeves, their packable windbreaker and a tactical jacket by them. Great stuff.

This is what we decided on........It will hold lots of stuff, It's leather, looks masculine, isn't expensive, holds a goodly amount, ie:camera, pistola,J/K etc etc...

He can wear it over his shoulder, across his chest or around his waist....He says he will do it........
