Here's the picture of the baby mango tree.
It's 7 inches tall and has 3 layers (6 leaves) with another set on the way.

Looks good and healthy to me.

Fungus gnats - they're everywhere (they come in from outside). Provide moist soil in pots and you'll get them, no avoiding it. If you're getting huge numbers it can be an indication of overwatering, as they like damp soil. But drying the soil out enough to kill them will also kill the seedlings. The best remedy I've found is, every time you find a small spider in the house, put it in one of the pots. Centipedes, too. They'll eat the fungus gnats and keep the population down.

fungus gnats are too much water.. in the wrong potting media...

growing in pots is real hard .... and trees do better in a much coarser.. dryer media ...

start letting your media nearly dry in between waterings..

repot and remove all the media, since the next generation of eggs is in the media .. ALL THE POTS AT ONCE ...

and sterilize all your media before use .. regardless of what the bag says.. link below ...

It's good to know that gnats aren't gonna kill my plant. I'll try the spider thing, too. I took the back of soil and I'm going to give it a good week long vacation in our freezer. That should do it, right? Then I just have to keep it from getting overly wet. Thanks for the tips.

I noticed this morning that the bottom leaves had reached the soil. I draped them over the outside of the container so they don't curl up and so the plant can use them (rather than having them wasted and away from the sun). Will the stem catch up eventually?

My grapefruit seeds appear to be doing well. They've grown little roots and they're pushing themselves up and out of the soil. One looks like it already has a bit of a stem structure. Anyone got an idea of how warm these should be. Our days range from 70-90 degrees. I know they grow well in states like Florida so I'm assuming this temperature range is okay.

I also have questions on tomato plants. I put several seeds in a dish (not hoping for much) and they've grown very well. However, I planted them all in a very tight group. Obviously there's no hope of separating them without killing them. Do I cut the stems of the ones I don't want or will they work it out via survival of the fittest?
