"It's a family event with caffeine available."

That's what I thought I just heard on TV. I thought, Man, caffeine must be awfully important to some people.

But what she actually said was, "It's a family event with camping available."

LOL!

Well, it truly could be as you saw it.....some family events really could use a shot of caffeine!

I know that I need to drink something to get thru some family events, Alisande. rofl Caffeine wouldn't be MY choice.

It's funny how you hear things differently from what is actually said. We crack ourselves around here a lot, getting things all wrong.

To start a leaf cut it from your plant leaving about an inch of the petiole (leaf stem). Take the leaf from the middle row of the violet. The outer row is beginning to age, and while they can produce babies, they lack the vigor of the younger middle row and may take longer to produce babies. The new leaves are immature. Make the cut at an angle with the long section of the angle at the back of the leaf and the short in the front. Leaves will produce without this angle cut, it just helps the babies to come up at the front of the leaf rather than the back where they will be in the mother leaf's shadow. Plant the leaf in a light mix-some use the 1/3 peat, 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 perlite mix. Some use just perlite. I've used both successfully. Put the leaf in a baggie or a dome. You are, in effect, making a mini greenhouse. Put in good light, not sun, and then-practice patience! Keep an eye on your leaf and water as needed. You probably won't need to water much because the baggie helps prevent water evaporation and retains humidity. Leaves will vary in the time they take to produce babies. The shortest I've had was 10 days. The longest about 6 months. As long as the leaf is healthy, it can produce babies. Most growers take a leaf from any new violet they get just in case something happens to the original. Give it a try-it's actually quite easy! Not having enough experience to say from personal experience, but I would imagine that ethnic "festivals", Mexican, Caribbean, Italian, etc., etc., might work - you (market vendors) do or can grow most of the ingredients needed, esp. with enough lead time. I doubt the market is drawing much, or is even open, for strawberry festivals, or early spring crops like asparagus, but what about the other fruits - apples, blueberries, and the other berry fruits - raspberry, gooseberry, etc., etc.? Another option might be for melons, or sweet corn (yes, I know the last is almost a non-starter due to grocery store availability, but just tossing out ideas). If there are flower growers, what about having the local garden clubs do a flower arranging "contest", including a class for the customer/amateur to enter on the day - or say that ALL arrangements must be made up from materials available on the day, containers supplied by the market or the arranger, and maybe limit the amount of flowers to $X, or to 2 bunches, etc. etc. You might have to provide greenery and filler material.... If it's done right, you might have mini-demos.... I would probably come for most of these ideas, and if they are well advertised, and sound enticing and welcoming...

I'm also mainly interested in veggies like Bonnie and Donna so would hate to see these go away as well. I was going to offer up a suggestion to have these events quarterly rather than monthly. Unless the majority wants monthly swaps, I would think quarterly Round Robins would result in larger participant numbers and more varieties of well... varieties. lol I'm fairly new to the group (started swapping last fall) but would be willing to help with hosting duties too. I'm sure mentoring would be in order but I'm a fast study (if that helps). :-) So count me in... Lynn

They used to advertise the lap band here but that is not what I heard "If you need to lose weight use the lap dance" that would get my head turning.

Years ago I worked with a woman who was constantly suffering from sinus infections. Finally her doc sent her to an ENT who did surgery to clean out this woman's sinus cavities. I had told my husband about it and contemplated the fact that someday I might need to have that done to my left sinuses (right side is fine - left side is always "stuffy").

One day we're in the car, driving up Highway 50 to Apple Hill, and my nose was really bothering me. Hubs said to me that perhaps now was the time for me to ask my doc about the surgery. I said, "What surgery?" (it had been a number of years since we had discussed my former coworker's sinus infections). He replied, "You know -- the one where they remount your nose."

"What?? Remount my nose?!?"

Hubs had said "ream out" as in "clean out" and I'd heard "remount." I had visions of the doc lifting my nose up off my face and then putting it back down in a slightly different location...

We both started laughing hysterically. I'm sure the other motorists on the road thought we were nuts.

Lindsey, did you have it done??? My left side is a horrible mess. The MD just says "not much room int here, huh?".

No, I haven't had it done. I probably should, but I keep hoping that it's just a "simple little sinus infection" that the right antibiotics will clear up.
