What color/type of chairs w/ kitchen table..

Hey there..

So I was unable to get the white cabinets that I wanted (builder didn't offer them) so instead I got beautiful toffee maple cabinets. Because I couldn't get white, I figured I'd work the white in through furniture. I have picked a white kitchen table I think that I like, but I do not like the chairs that come with it. I'm looking for suggestions on chairs/chair styles from you all :)

The table is from RoomsToGo and is super cheap. If you've heard anything bad (or had a bad experience) please let me know so I can find a better quality table. Our price range is 1,200 in below for the table. I wouldn't like to spend an arm and a leg on the chairs, but I will if I fall in love with some.

What are your counters, floors, door style, and backsplash? Without knowing anything else, I think of simple white ladderback chairs with tie-on fabric cushions. If your kitchen and door style is more formal, you could do a white Queen Anne with the round white table.

I guess some more info would help, huh? :)

I will have (new build, moving in in 2 weeks!) 'standard capella pecan' hardwood throughout the entire downstairs. It's a medium-light wood floor. The granite is Giallo Ornamental and we don't have a backsplash yet. It will most likely be very neutral. I'm still having trouble w/ my 'style' as it's my first home (just out of college!) so I'm all over the place and seem to love everything!

My ideal kitchen would have been shaker style white cabinets, but I was unable to get those w/ the builder. I lean towards either really dark wood or white painted wood.

Proudmama: Yes, that's exactly what I'm looking for in a light maple. Puppy farms? Egads, just another category of purchases to feel guilty about.... I can't buy anything from China without a twinge of guilt either.... Ellen: Thanks for the insight into Amish business practices. These were a few things available locally - and there is a Walmart in a close town so anything online (canada) is easily returnable. this is 13" x 20" w 4 60w bulbs 29" x 17", 22" tall (extendable for lower) 18" x 23" fixture plus drop chain - seems way too big right??

Site finished hardwoods are the gold standard. Using a lower grade in multiple widths will allow some savings...but not as much as you think. The concern I have would be the substrate. Is it concrete slab or is it wood joist? Hardwood over concrete is a bit trickier as it takes a LOT of technical knowledge to get it to work as a glue down install. If this is over concrete then the engineered hardwood (that's what it is called) is a better option because most of these can be floated. Traditionally the engineered hardwoods have beveled edges (the valleys between the planks) to ensure a nicer look when installed (they are not sanded like site finished which means the edges can have issues 'lining up' which makes the bevel a benefit to the installer). I prefer a lighter hardwood but your inspiration photo has a medium reddish brown finish/stain used. It creates a very rich look. I would not go any darker than the inspiration photos. And remember: a lower grade wood with multiple widths (such as your inspiration photo) will look a snick more rustic/organic than a higher grade floor with uniform width. A bit more about your substrate will help us figure out what is *better for your situation...and PLEASE tell me you are using a professional wood flooring installer and not the GC's 'guy' who does framing, drywall AND floors.

You can call consignment shops and ask if they have white tables or chairs. Often you can get very high quality furniture for a low price. Also check out craigslist.

I really love that table. If it sets your heart on fire go with it. I like Smiling's idea of simple ladder back chairs. I'd go simple for chairs. I'd think the major concern would be matching the whites for the table and chairs. It would really bother me if they didn't match. It might be safer to buy the table and chairs as a set and forgo the table for the sake of the chairs. Post a picture of the chairs. I'll bet we'll like them.

I have had lots of furniture from Rooms To Go--my sister-in-law used to be a manager there and got us great deals. As a matter of fact, all three of our bedroom suites are from there, as well as a chaise, chair and ottoman, lamps, living room and hallway rugs--you get the idea. Everything we have ever gotten from there has stood the test of time. Granted they have some furniture that is better made than others but as long as it is heavy and sturdy, you should be fine. The Cindy Crawford line is one of their better lines. If you like the table, go for it!
