Miele 36" induction here. LOVE LOVE LOVE it...on every level and for all the reasons mentioned above. Gas is fun and responsive; so is induction. It's also surprisingly sensitive. My brand has no power sharing so I can crank up each individual hob with no issues if I choose. You may want to check the power sharing issue with the electrolux. I rarely have more then 3 out of the 5 hobs going at once; but options were important to me.

We have the 36" GE profile and love it like crazy. I went from electric to induction and my cooking time has decreased dramatically.

Check the Appliances forum for lots and lots of info about induction. From what I've been able to ascertain they all work fine. The differences are things like the size and power of the elements, how the controls work, timers and other add on features, etc. Also, there are differing requirements for ventilation space. To learn more, check out The Induction Site as well, which is dated but still has good info.

I have both gas and induction, and only use the gas for flaming, charring and toasting, and when I need more burners.

I wonder if any studies have been done regarding the safety of induction, such as electromagnetic overflow?

There is always concern about microwaves leaking and the issues with cell phones, what about induction? Although it is probably as safe as an electric cook top.

Jane, I've heard that people with pacemakers, etc., should avoid inductions. Don't know of any other concerns though.

That's an overstatement. People with pacemakers need to confirm with their physicians that their pacemakers won't be affected. There was a study published in Europe that a certain kind of pacemaker might potentially be of concern. I've never heard of problems with other implants, but I suppose if you have a steel rod in your arm it might also be something to be concerned about. The magnetic field is designed to operate within about a quarter inch of the surface and dissipate from there. There are also pot detectors which keep the inductors from turning on without an iron/steel pan to interact with. Most also require a minimum diameter. What's generally said is that you'd have to lie down on the pan to have a problem. That may be overly flip, but the warnings are to caution people to consider their implants and check them out with their doctors. I've never heard of someone actually having an incident with one.

I have an electrolux cooktop with two induction burners and three regular. Love it because I didnt have to run out and buy all new cookware but still have the choice to use induction for speed. The control is comparative to gas.

I have a Bosch 800 36". It is one of my very most favorite things in my new kitchen. Heating a pan up is crazy fast. It is super responsive and doesn't put off extra heat. It's so easy to clean up. I can't think of a downside.

Be sure to check the specs as some require special (dedicated circuit, for example) electrical connection.

I think you will love induction.

Have had the 36 inch Electrolux Icon for two years now and love it. My husband cooks a lot and is messy. There have been absolutely no issues, even with mega spills and other happenings. So many things are easier, melting chocolate, etc.

I have a Bosch 800 30". I love it. the only possible downside in the whole world would be the inability to char with a flame, such as a red pepper. Could be done in the oven or grill, tho.

I have a steel rod and screws in my ankle and there are no no issues at all.

It is fun. Clean. Easy. Even cooking. Super fast. Wonderful. I have never heard a negative and I have no negatives.

plllog, yes, that's all I've heard as well, I didn't intend to overstate. My sister has an implant, we just don't let her cook on it, not that she's ever had any intention of doing so! :)

Sochi, I'm sorry I didn't mean that to sound so strong. It doesn't matter for your sister who doesn't intend to cook on your stove, but there are plenty of people with pacemakers who have been cleared to use induction and haven't had any issues. Just didn't want someone to be scared off. :)

I also have the Bosch 800 30 inches induction and I really like it. I did have to adjust my cooking habits a little - I like to lift my pan up and swirl the oil around (especially when I am using a wok for stir fry) and if you take the plan off the induction ring for "too long" - it thinks you don't have a pot on it and beeps and switches off.

I do like how quickly it boils water for pasta, etc
