Pro - Con of Using Countertop as Part of Backsplash - w Pic
Comments (9)Thank you x6. This is exactly the feedback I was hoping for. Counter backsplash before the rest of the wall art was imprinted on my brain from the old laminate days...but no 4" counter trim is not something I'm use to seeing. The design logic of it looking like an afterthought, and wrecking the visual feel I'm after said it perfectly. And, it is nice to know, in the end, to not take it too seriously as tastes and style change over time...a good reminder. Yes, this metal art is fun!...See MoreHeavily textured natural stone backsplash - pros and cons
Comments (6)Oh, seal it. Please. Maybe covering it with Plexi-glass. The other thing to keep in mind is that with the irregular face, dirt settles on the top edges of the protruding stone. My sponge just tore when trying to clean mine. I ended up using scrubbing bubbles every so often, which stunk, but worked well. For the record, it's a Fab.U.Lous way to get soot off the face of brick fire places, too. No pictures, but I wouldn't do anything that's got an irregular face, natural without sealing, or mortar or grout that will absorb tomato sauce. I don't fry, so I can only imagine the grease.......See MoreCopper Backsplash behind cooktop? Pros and Cons
Comments (31)Unless you seal it and scrupulously maintain the sealant, the copper will definitely turn a mottled dark brown, like an old penny, regardless of whether it's splashed on; just a natural effect of oxidation. It's gorgeous but whether you like it for your space all depends on the effect you're after. Aliceinwonderland is my idol (waves!), and here are the copper countertops I made that are modeled after her incredible island. Don't know how dark your cabinets are; these are a medium-dark 15-yr-old cherry with a 'fruitwood' stain, whatever that was in the '90's (we recycled them from the ReStore). All the counters are copper, around 5 yrs old....See MorePros and cons of pot fillers - need opinions/advice, please
Comments (8)Thanks for the EPA link, ccoombs1. By the way, that backsplash is gorgeous. I wouldn't have wanted to put anything on it anyway- your solution is great. Now I'm nervous that my much-anticipated hot water dispenser might not be a good idea, either... the link doesn't specifically address that, but it does say to only use cold water for drinking/cooking. The water would be cold when it goes into the heating appliance, which would be brand new, so I would not think that there would be any risk of lead. (?) Now I'm nervous... We have two little boys and I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize their health. We tested everything about the water when we moved in and again 2 years ago. Lead levels at the time were fine, but we did install a UV system for bacteria. Because of the old house, I get the kids' lead levels checked every year. I certainly don't want to add another risk factor......See Moredallen11
