What kind of backsplash?
Comments (4)It may come off as too contemporary, but I used Starfire glass (very clear with no green cast) and painted the back of it the wall color. It reduced the number of colors and obvious "materials" in the kitchen, which is what I wanted, and it is very easy to keep clean. It is very obviously shiny, though, which may go against what you are looking for, although the granite will be pretty shiny too....See MoreWhite Glass Backsplash?
Comments (25)leela4--thanks! Our kitchen stools are Baba leather counter stools (more easily found/sold in wood, but one place I found online had them in leather). We went to Jensen-Lewis in NYC during our "great stool hunt" but I don't remember if we saw the Way stools. I just looked them up--they look nice! Our dining room chairs are also from Calligaris--the Even chair. They're nice chairs, and didn't break the bank (like others we saw). kaysd--thank you, too! Our hood is a Pando hood. One thing we went for form (and quietness) over function. It's okay, but not really the most effective hood we could (or should?) have gotten. Looks nice though! I don't think Pando is sold in the US anymore, or at least, the distributor (Signature Marketing)/appliance store (Reno's in NJ) just might not be carrying them anymore. You'd have to ask about that. Signature had the longer chimney fabricated for us at no extra cost (99.9% sure about that), and then had it cut to the length specified by DH when we had difficulty locating a place that could do it for us without ruining the SS....See MoreCopper Backsplash behind cooktop? Pros and Cons
Comments (31)Unless you seal it and scrupulously maintain the sealant, the copper will definitely turn a mottled dark brown, like an old penny, regardless of whether it's splashed on; just a natural effect of oxidation. It's gorgeous but whether you like it for your space all depends on the effect you're after. Aliceinwonderland is my idol (waves!), and here are the copper countertops I made that are modeled after her incredible island. Don't know how dark your cabinets are; these are a medium-dark 15-yr-old cherry with a 'fruitwood' stain, whatever that was in the '90's (we recycled them from the ReStore). All the counters are copper, around 5 yrs old....See MoreBacksplash decision time
Comments (18)Hmm... I love the linear look, in fact have looked at that same tile but the color wasn't right, and I changed everything up again anyway. But, I was looking at it for a bathroom rather than the kitchen. I think in that big an expanse it might get too busy. They did have that same style (same colors and stone etc.) in slightly wider linear pieces which I liked also and wouldn't be as busy. I like that it would pull in the cabs and add some color. But, I agree with others I think it is more "of the moment" than subway. Love the layout, btw. :) (Food for thought... over in the "building a home" forum are discussions of the upcharges on things like backsplashes. I've decided to hold off on all of those types of things and have them done after the fact. The builder is charging wayyyy over retail for things and giving no allowances for not getting the standards so anything like that which is easy to add after the fact I'm waiting on. Not only will it be less expensive, then I can really see everything together in the home and see what works. Again, just food for thought.)...See Moresjhockeyfan325
