wood island top - should it match the wood floor color?
Comments (16)I have had wood island countertops in 2 kitchens now and love them. I would only use John Boos Hard Rock Maple with the oiled finish. It is super easy upkeep, and allows you to cut right on the countertop. The oiled finish is just an easy rub in/ rub off application. When the counter is new you need to do this about once a week for about a month, then after that about quarterly. It is so nice to have a fully useful counter. Just yesterday I fixed 35 pounds of pulled pork and did all the "pulling" and chopping right on the counter. So nice. current house: previous house:...See MoreDoes the wood color on the island chairs need to match he cabinets?
Comments (23)Lovely kitchen! I agree with others those bar stools aren't working though. Since the dining room table will be close by the island, I might do something different in color to set them off. What about a molded Eames-style chair in a bright color? I don't particularly care for the color below, but they come in a host of colors, and you can get ones that swivel: Depending on what color your back splash is, I think this peacock blue color would work well in your space: I have the chair version of these in white as our dining room table chairs and have two young kids are the are easy to wipe down and worry-free....See MoreWhat upper cabinet stain matches with a rich blue lowers and island?
Comments (9)TT, the painted cabs should be solid wood, with MDF panels only. no reason to have all fiberboard. 3K more to paint as opposed to staining? wow. Sounds a bit high. Confirm that the doors/drawers are indeed solid wood, with only MDF center panels. I had my cabinets painted last year. I have solid wood (birch I believe). but the drawers weren't the same as the doors, so for another 2K, I got all new door/drawer fronts in the same shaker style. They are all solid maple with the door center panels being the MDF. my floors are white oak, and I have walnut around the vent hood and window. You will have to see how he does the stain. You say you don't want it to come out like your last pic. so how can you be assured that it won't? Elkhorn would be safer since it doesn't have any yellow. And like I've said, your other two pics are on oak. not birch. you understand the difference in wood, yes? you like the kitchen stain colors w/oak. So get oak and not birch I'm just concerned that you want blue lowers/wood uppers. Have you found a picture w/that combo? even this one is all wood w/blue island. As for the walnut butcher block, 4K is ridiculous. is this a builder home ? you know they make their money on all the upgrades, right? It's cheaper if you go w/base options, and have things redone once you move in. like countertops or backsplash choices. take the included option on the island. when you move in, pay to have what ever you want. I guarantee you it will be cheaper Don't they offer a standard white cabinet? I think you should rethink your two tone options...See MoreTo paint island cabinets to match with the rest of the island?
Comments (9)there is no norm. the island has good interest with the wood rails applied. a statement top will set it off quite nicely especially when things get put away alittle more [[we all understand the issue] . paint wont accomplish much but you can paint anything you like....See Moreejbrymom
