confused about sink sizes to fit in sink base, help!

We have a 36 inch sink base. We have the normal 24 inch depth We plan to do an undermount -- probably a Ticor. The lenghth is not a problem, but after reading a few posts I am concerned about the depth front to back in order to get the faucet to fit as I want the faucet centered. We have a window over the sink with a small sill. I will be choosing a slightly smaller sink than what I had originally thought, but is there a guide as to what is too large? Looking at the Ticor 105 or 205 models and looking at the kohler forte faucet.

It depends on your faucet....so you need to have both the sink & the faucet picked out.

In general, a faucet w/the handle on the side that goes front-to-back to turn water on/off will need more room behind it than a faucet w/a handle on top...but it could still be an issue for this one as well.

Have you ordered your cabinets yet? If not, consider ordering a sink base that's 3" deeper than normal (i.e., 27"). If you've already ordered it (or have it), then look into pulling it forward 3". That's actually a nice look, btw. If I hadn't had the bay window behind my sink I would have done just that.

If you cannot do any of the above, then you need to be very careful what sink & faucet you choose since they need to accommodate the window sill above it.

Counters are usually 25-1/4" deep or so, but assume 25"
Next, figure the sink will sit 2" or 3" back from there.
How much does the window sill stick out? (1-1/2"?)

25" - 3" - 1.5" = 20.5" to work with.

Now, look at your faucet specs and see what clearances you need. (Clearance usually includes width of faucet base & handle "swing".)

20.5" - clearance = maximum depth of sink.

If you get the 105 and don't center the faucet, instead put it b/w the two sinks, then I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. We have the S405D and did that.

The 205 may be more problematical since the bowls are equal sized with no "dip" in the rim, which means the faucet may have to be set further back.

Have you considered that if you center the faucet over the 105 that it might not reach into the small bowl completely (again, depending on the faucet you're using)?

I have been told by 4 different KD that a 42 inch corner sink base will hold a regular double bowl sink of 32 inches total width. The cabinet face will depend on if you have frameless or framed cabinets, but in the KM line I am using the bas of 32 inches has a face on the door of approx 22 inches. I believe it was LWO who stated on the forum that she recommends a 48 inch base cabinet for most corner sinks. Personally I don't have that much room. I am using a 42 inch base cabinet and will use a double bowl 1 3/4 bowl sink with a sink exterior measurement of 31.5 inches. It will sit back 3.5 inches from the front of the cabinet. Do a search of corner sinks both here and in the FKB and you will see several different bases with different size sinks.

I am going with a SS farmhouse style sink. I had the same question. I have the 36-inch sink base and was told to go with the 33-inch sink by the KD. If you are planning on having granite installed, then you need to have your sink and faucets available when the installers create the template for the countertops. I guess it depends on the interior measurements of the sink and your particular sink base as to whether or not you can install a 36" sink in a 36" sink base. I've seen it done with farmhouse sinks here on Garden Web, but I went with the recommendation of the KD, obviously because I didn't want to buy two sinks ;-).

I've always described it as a build-to-suit. Blum drawers are Build-to-suit-youself drawers. If Blum itself is selling parts-only, is this a sufficient answer? In their Tandembox line (for example) here is what they sell you. They sell you the 2-part glides and you make you own chipboard drawer floor. They sell you the clips to connect any drawer front. They sell you the back corner piece to hold your back panel that you make out of chipboard. You add the melamine edge banding to the sides of your melamine panels. Whether I write "chipboard" or "melamine" it's all the same thing. (Some people don't know that "melamine" is the surface layer on top of chipboard panels. This needs to be expressed here and there so that they can figure it out.) This concludes the tutorial. Problem solved! (For me anyway....might work for you too though.) I called Franke and they confirmed with their warehouse that the sinks are branded with their logo on the INSIDE of the bowl, on the right hand side of the sink. The photos that show the logo on the apron front are old and they have not been making them that way for a while. If you get it from homeclick.com, there is a 10% off Franke coupon through 7/18: FRANKE10 that makes it $810. That's the best deal I can find so I'm going to get it from them. Hope this works for you too!

thanks buehl, too late on the cabinet it is already installed. Wish I had thought to ask this question earlier. The sill sticks out 1.5 inches and The kohler has a 2 inch base and the handle is on the top-- not a side handle-- so I should have enough clearance even with the 205 so long as I stick to a pull out with a top lever. I do like the look of the sink you have and if I choose the 105 I would definitely have the faucet between the 2 and not centered.
