Is your crackle subway backsplash hard to keep clean?
Comments (8)Sorry, but crackle tile can be a bad choice for a backsplash depending upon your oven/stove. I have Sonoma, too--lots of it, including my countertops. I didn't know that even after sealing, it will continue to "crackle" for about 90 days and should be babied and re-sealed multiple times. In any case, if you have a Lacanche stove, the gas oven exhausts at the top of the stove toward the backsplash. It has stained my backsplash in a very obvious way. The two colors of tile, by the way are creamy crackle and butter. It does, indeed, get into the "crackle" and it is uncleanable. I have learned to lean a silicone bread board in front of it now to prevent more staining, but the damage is done. This has been discussed on the Lacanche conversations some years ago.......See MoreBacksplash finished - sneak peak at almost done kitchen
Comments (21)Thank you so much everyone. My DH, who, with me by his side, has done all of the remodeling was so patient with my selection of the backsplash. Funny thing is that I circled back to the exact same tile I originally wanted. After looking at so many, not quite right whites, I think I finally got over the cost issue. I also found that by working with a distributer of Sonoma directly in california the price was significantly better than locally in the midwest - even after shipping costs. Lake_girl - our cabinets are also not a pure white, a soft white (Crystal calls it frosty white). The sonoma creamy is a little "creamier" than our white and without the grout they looke even more cream. So I do believe that the grout can change the "look" of your white subways. Bee - I will be more than happy to measure. I want to say it is 49" or 50" inside the posts but I'll measure and let you know for sure. Red - (Makes me think of one of my current favorite shows, Once Upon A Time - Red Riding hood :) ) --- The longer pulls are also a top knob pull. It is the TopKnob M965. My Knobs are the Top Knob M354, and the bin pulls are Top Knob M364. All in Antique Pewter finish. I found the best prices at topknobs.com. Loved hunting the web for the best prices for this project. My floor tile is from Italy and the local distributer thought their distributer "carried" it, but it turns out they special ordered so our tile people wouldn't order it. I emailed someone in Italy off the manufacturers website and they sent me a list of all US carriers. It turns out that I got the same tile for over 1000.00 less, out of Florida, including shipping. So excited! That was out of www.fastfloors.com. Love it when you get great deals on a great product for your remodeling efforts!...See MoreI'm so done with this kitchen. Comments (27)April - Love your countertop and your cabinets and can't wait to see the final reveal. When you finally find the tile - it will be love at first sight! I really wanted a glass backsplash. I had those same tiles in my kitchen plus others. I also considered back painted glass but the cost was way out of budget. I also could not get the glass to talk to my kitchen no matter how hard I tried! Some others to consider - there were a number of Jeffrey Court tiles that were close seconds. I also loved Heath tiles but was too far away to find a match (I was too embarrassed to ask them to send me a third set of samples especially when I said I didn't want crackle and ended up with crackle LOL) Here is a picture of the Grazia Rixi Crema that I used It is probably a bit lighter than this picture but my little camera had difficulty with the light. I also put small accents above the cooktop. The accent row is called Beach - not sure who actually makes it but it came from the Tile-Shop (not Tile Shop) Again - probably a bit lighter in real life. PS - Ellen - I think you are my "fan" club! (of course, you have the same tile as well!)...See MoreTHIRD backsplash order - My crackle tiles are cracked!
Comments (12)Allison0704 - I even called Walker Zanger directly to ask them if there was anything they could do and they referred me back to the tile store. The store had contacted the distributor and sales rep, but they said nothing could be done. Thanks so much for the info about Status Ceramics. I'll check them out. Bestyears - I've seen photos of the Emser Cape Cod, it's a beautiful tile. I'm pretty sure mine broke because one of the boxes was dropped. I didn't notice some damage to the corner of the box when I picked it up and that's the box that had all the broken tiles. The other box was fine. I called the tile dealer yesterday, they said I need to speak with another woman on Monday to take care of it. Just not sure about the mismatched bullnose tile. I suppose I could order quarter round (if it doesn't match, maybe it won't be noticeable because it's a thinner tile), but I like the look of the bullnose better....See Moreromy718
