I have soaker hoses on the perimter with quick disconnects so I can drag my 250 feet plus hose to each. While its being watered, I like to weed or deadhead. Then, I hand water the interior. One day (on the to-do list), I'd love to trench in some pvc-type piping underground from the faucet. Then there'll be no more near misses with running over my hose with the lawn mower. My mom always shakes her head and says, "Isn't a kitchen garden supposed to be by the kitchen?" Well, yes, but the sunniest spots were either where the garden is now or smack in the middle of the lawn the kids play on. And, so, I get to hose wrestle when its time to mow.

flyingflower, you are so kind but I must confess! Just as tinam61 asked for help with her armoire, I did too, right here on this forum! After I bought the framed art from Tuesday Morn.a few years ago, I came here and received so many wonderful suggestions from so many of the talented decorating guru's here! The white candles have been replaced with garnet as per Les' suggestion to tie it into the red of the WT. Most of the things I already had and I played around with height and texture. I knew about the 'odd' rule :) Thanks again, and hopefully it can help someone else. For me, I need that visual. I cannot throw things together without a picture! Often times I just copy the look out of a magazine if I see something that I love! Shee, my ceilings are vaulted, so it leaves space to do something. I am not sure if I would do too much other than ivy in a low planter with 8' ceilings, although my inspiration pic seems to be close to the ceiling! You never know!

I want to caution all of those who think narrow aisles are OK for a multi-cook kitchen. If you plan your kitchen very, very, very carefully you can probably pull it off. However, if you're not very careful you will end up with a kitchen like Rookie_2010's MIL's kitchen or my SIL's kitchen...very difficult for more than one person to work in...and/or your narrow island becoming a "barrier island" (both of which my SIL has b/c she just had to have an island in a kitchen that couldn't support it...she has grown to hate it over time...especially as her children have grown). If you will have more than one person working in your kitchen at a time on a semi-regular basis, regardless of what they are doing, think long and hard b/f you deliberately plan for a narrow aisle and/or cram in a narrow island... Our kitchen is 10'6" wide and while I have a "U" shape, the fact that the legs are rather short and the base wide, prevents people from becoming trapped in it. I had a choice of an island or what I have now, and I am very, very glad I was talked out of an island by the wise folks here! If you do decide to plan for narrow aisles, etc., at least go in w/your eyes open and realize that you will have a less-than-optimum space and that you will most likely have to adjust your kitchen use to accommodate those aisles (or island).

I vote no mullions (actually muntins). It can get busy with the horizontal lines of the mullions conflicting with the horizontal lines of the shelves. Sometimes you can line these up but due to hinge locations, sometimes you can't. Secondly, I think if you have glass doors you intend the contents to be fully seen. The cleaner look that you get with the frame only (no mullions) is more updated and in keeping with the more pared down streamlined kitchen styling of today. 3/8" thick glass should be sturdy enough for your plates. They would be nice if you are going to light the inside of the cabinet as they will allow the light to shine through. If not just use finished wood shelves. The interior of the cabinet should also be finished to match the outside. Here is a link that might be useful: Kitchens for Living
