Help me decide!

I'm torn between two different units for my range and double ovens. I'm hoping some input from the group would help me make my decision.

The two units I've narrowed my range top down to are the Wolf 48" with the built in griddle and the Bluestar 48" with the built in griddle.

I'm drawn at this point to the bluestar because of the 22k btu burners, something the wolf deosn't have. If I did go Wolf I'm preferential to the open burners, heat distribution seems better with the open design.

The bluestar quote I received is less than the wolf by a few hundred dollars, so that helps. Is it possible that the "Heritage" line 48" w/ griddle/broiler is 2300 more???

Was I quoted the wrong number?

The next deicision I'm up against is the double ovens. I'm highly considering the Miele or Dacor (fully enclosed elements). The fit and finish of the Dacor seems tighter, it also seems to have more preprogrammed functions than the Miele.

Any input on the above? Help me decide before the price increases take effect please!

I considered both the Miele and Dacor ovens, initially preferring the Dacor. After reading several posts on the Appliance forum discussing repair issues with the Dacor I decided to investigate further. The chef at the local appliance store who spends his days cooking in the live kitchens at their two locations says he has noticed significant issues in the last couple of years with the Dacor ovens on cooking evenly. It was enough to convince me to drop Dacor off our oven list.

I can't help you on the range. Since we decided we want sealed burners (ease of cleaning vs. what for us is a small difference in flame distribution) we dropped Blue Star off our list.

Go to the appliances forum, and do a search on each model you are researching, ALL those brands have been discussed there at length.

It seems a bunch of people have been having trouble with Wolf open burner all gas ranges, which is too bad. Bluestar customers seem to love them, but they require extra attention due to the high heat (scortched backsplash, extra venting, etc.).

Light oak would't be my first choice. It does tend to look a bit country, but if you like it and think it'll work with what you have, you should do what you want. Since you're recovering the chairs, it might be just as cost effective to purchase new chairs in a wood tone that you prefer. I think the table size depends on your space. When I was single, I had a small table (30 x 50-It's now DH's desk.) in a small apartment. Most of the time it was pushed up against the wall with chairs at the ends and two chairs along the long side. It could be pulled away from the wall to accomodate six, but it was a tight fit! My current kitchen table is 34 x 55 but has leaves to make it longer. It's narrower than my last table (43.5 x 55 - a drop leaf that is now in the living room.) but suits us fine. I can fit dinner plates on the table without removing my large bowl centerpiece. I don't think I could fit everything if it was 32 inches. Maybe you could map out the dimensions of the new table onto the old table with painters tape to see if it works for the way you usually set the table.

Update: I chose the Taj Mahal and it has been installed! Now waiting for cabinets to be painted. The Taj reads a little grey/green in my space and I want to bring out the warmer neutral tones in a backsplash. Hardware is aged brass. While it may be a little early to finalize, I am backsplash obsessed right now. Current options are a matte crackle 3x6 subway in a sand color and an ivory gloss in a 4x5 size. Here is a picture of my stone against by trim color (BM Linen White) which will also be cabinet color and the two tile options. What do you think? Other ideas?

Love the terrazzo floor! I like your set-up with the closet with doors and hallway into the bathroom. I had that setup at a prior home and it worked well to buffer bathroom noise into the bedroom especially if someone else is still sleeping. Will you have a pocket or hung door for the opening from the bedroom into the closet/bathroom area to buffer the light/noise? How much painted wall space is there in the closet? Will you paint the ceiling white or the wall color? I too like white/off white for my walk-in closet interiors for better viewing of the contents. If you plan to use a color, how it ”reads” in your closet will depend on the lighting. I find walk-in closets need a lot of really good light to be fully functional (hard to tell dark navy from black in a poorly lit closet!). Consider installing the lighting and then checking the color samples in there. Depending on how large the closet opening is, have you considered center-opening mirrored sliders rather bi-fold mirrored doors?

We have lots of new roofs in my neighborhood, and I would say only one in 10 houses/families gets the colors right. I think gray roofs or black roofs or charcoal gray roofs with browns and reds in the brick look horrible together. You need to pick up on the Browns. I think a dark brown would look very pretty with your brick.

Thank you for the input, I want to make sure I do this right the first time!
I will search the appliance forum again, maybe I'm just searching wrong, didn't find much when I searched Dacor problems.
I think the bluestar will be the range top, it's just the double ovens that is bothering me, especially with what I've found about problems with Dacor's push buttons.
So now I guess the toss up is back to the Miele vs. Wolf. Miele has it right now because of the "Master Chef" feature and the rotissiere (sp?).
Ugh! What a dilemma!

I looked at both and cooked on both. My feeling is... the Wolf is a pretty stove, the Bluestar is a working stove.

I chose the Bluestar and am very happy. It has the heat to sear steaks in a cast iron skillet... and it takes every bit of 22K heat to do it. Don't worry about open burners being hard to clean... they arn't. If they really get messed up, everything goes in the dishwasher and comes out like new.

I am sorry I got the griddle. Not that it's bad, but I think I'd use the charbroiler more. We eat a lot more steak than french toast. :) I visited the factory in Reading PA and did a stir fry.. that sold me. My range is about two years old now and has had no problems. I'm happy with it and I use it. Good luck
