How to eliminate 101 rabbits from my flower garden
Comments (66)We live in the northern county of San Diego in an area adjacent to chaparral. I've seen coyotes, squirrels, bunnies, hawks, gopher (yes, I actually saw the gopher - but my husband took care of that - RIP), and I understand there are owl boxes courtesy of our HOA. The bunnies are eating my husband's lawn (and sometimes my plants). The squirrels come in to eat too. The hills are dry this time of year, but we have kept our lawn and plants watered, making them yummy meals for the critters. We finished putting up some kind of fencing we were told is used to keep bunnies out. Ironically, the bunnies chewed through the fence where the back gate goes out to the wildlands - or from the wildlands into our backyard. A perfectly sized hole with nice little bits of fence scattered around the wrought iron gate. Although I did have to chuckle about it, we did work hard putting up that fence in the hottest part of the year. The rabbits were probably laughing too (rightly so - what a couple of dingdongs we are). Now my husband wants to shoot those bunnies with a pellet gun (he'd rather use something bigger, but I don't think that's legal - I'm not sure killing rabbits is legal in our area). I can understand his frustration, but I'm glad to see all the postings - you have my sincere appreciation - and will ask him to help me out with the bloodmeal and/or ammonia. I'll let you know whether it works for us or not. If those things don't work and I can't convince my husband to replace that fencing with something more sturdy, I'm afraid the rabbits will be meeting the gopher's demise. By the way, we did try other methods to deter the gopher (hair in the tunnel, plugging the tunnel) - then I read several posts and determined there was only one way to take care of the gopher; it was not the way I wanted, but the last resort. Best to all and your yards/gardens....See MoreHow to reduce weight of heavy blackout lining?
Comments (4)You could you use the shower curtain type of lining and it will not bunch up enough to notice it. You can buy this type of lining for drapes. Try your sears cat. It will not block out the light like black out lining. yes they do hook on to the drapery hook and no they are not stitched together. If you are concerned with the weight why not try sheers under them? (on a seperate rod) Bonnie...See MoreHow to dampen/reduce noise of air conditioner inside wall cabinet
Comments (4)The through-the-wall AC certainly came with a front but the owner isn't going to be able to attach it because some duct work was added to the upper-front of the unit to direct the conditioned air upward (there's a grill in the cabinet top in front of the window). If I were the owner I would check whether the unit should operate in a closed cabinet. If not, I'd cut holes in the doors of the required size and cover them with perforated metal (on the inside) to allow air flow and eliminate the need to leave the doors open. To reduce noise, I'd also put the noise-reducing material on the floor below the AC unit, behind the toekick grill. -- not an AC guy...See MoreI'm trying to acquire a new pro range hood. Comments (48)@opaone: your numbers, while still higher than my estimates, are at least within an order of magnitude, which in this business probably is reasonable correlation. I agree that this could rise to a significant concern with 10 people really cranking away in a poorly ventilated room. So we're on the same wavelength. @spurpura: you are correct in that I've not invested in air quality monitoring devices or hired PhD's to test my house. But my calculations are grounded in simple physics. The only assumption I have made is in the estimate of CO2 production during exercise, and that was from an academic sports physiology laboratory, authored by a PhD and published in a peer-reviewed journal. If you have figures showing that CO2 production during exercise is roughly 10 times higher than my estimate (which is what would be needed to support your observations), I'll await the citation. There are really only three possible scenarios: You are measuring local concentrations of CO2, presumably close to where you are exhaling. Your PhD consultants and their equipment are wrong. There's an exogenous unidentified source of CO2 infiltrating your exercise room. Enough of that dead end discussion. But...as to your original question, I think you're on the right track. As noted upthread, our 1200 cfm hood runs through a straight run of 10" duct, about 25' upwards, with an attic-mounted Fantech LD10 silencer and FKD10XL blower. It measures 60db (LCS weighted, ear level, roughly 4' from baffles) on high. So we hit the mark you are shooting for and I expect your setup will too. Good luck!...See Moreminty19
