Has anyone cooked prime rib using Auto Roast in their Miele oven?
Comments (25)gma_j, I see now you were referring to setting the probe temperature. I haven't used my Miele probe; I use the speed oven for smaller things, where a probe is less useful. But it really does snap in place with a loud click; so if yours didn't, that could be the problem. Larger things generally go into my E'lux oven; that probe works fine. The speed oven pre-heats quickly, so if something fits its faster to cook it there. Its useful for re-heating (use MasterChef, if you know the weight), as well as stuff like baked potatoes (in combination mode), and for roasting, braising, or convection baking small portions. I've rarely used defrost, or broil (except to finish browning something like ribs). The Miele's manuals leave much to be desired. While we wait for mojavean or someone smart to write a decent Miele speed oven cookbook, a variety of recipes on the Miele site can get you started on some dishes (see link). Here is a link that might be useful: Miele recipies...See MoreCooking turkey in convection oven
Comments (7)At Thanksgiving I've had groups ranging from 15 to 30. I used to always cook the turkey breasts in my portable convection oven and the big bird in the standard oven because that is where they fit. I've been using my convection for over 20 years. I find that the convection has more even heating because the air circulates. I like it. Recently bought a new oven that has the convection option and that is all I use now. If I time one of the ovens wrong I just take out the bird, tent it with foil and cover with towels. I never manage to get everything done at exactly the same time anyway because I need to free-up oven space for the side dishes....See MoreCasserole cooking in a Miele oven
Comments (11)Hi to all who responded to my OP. I wanted to update you all in the event you have issues that need to be resolved. I called Miele right after Christmas and scheduled a service call asking specifically that the tech bring some sort of tool to check the oven temps. I also asked that the $175 fee be waived since this has been an ongoing problem. The techs were here (the same ones who were here last yr....I kidded them about this being an annual event and the one remembered me as the "cookie lady" because the last complaint was around my cookie baking time. Anyway, they checked the oven temps in several areas...all checked out accurately (unbelievable), they pulled the ovens from the wall to be sure they were getting adequate ventilation...(installation was perfect). They checked all the settings and programs (no faults) So they decided that only thing they could do at this point was to get approval from a supervisor to replace the bottom elements in both ovens as well as the electronic components. (YEA!!!)Luckily I had pictures of some rolls I had baked at Easter last yr. I put three trays in the oven at the same time and the top tray burned while the other two were quite light. They finally agreed that the oven is not baking as it should. A picture is worth a thousand words!!!! The one tech said he has seen the problem before and the replacement of those parts was the solution. So I am hopeful that after next Tuesday, my ovens will be working properly and perfectly. So thank you all for encouraging me to continue to complain to Miele. They didn't charge the service fee even though the ovens are out of warranty. They were very nice about the whole thing. If you are having problems, take some pictures of the food that didn't come out the way it should have. Those pictures seemed to have made my case. loves2cook4six, I had an oven thermometer in the oven when the tech arrived and I told them that from what I could see the differencee between the oven and the thermometer is about 25-50 degrees. Again they told me they will never give you an accurate reading and they took the thermometer out of the oven. I really wanted to see how hot the oven was on the SEARING setting because I never get a good sear on any meat I do on auto roast. It sure is not anywhere near 425+. So that is the update. Thanks again to all.. Cotehele, I almost got Monogram appliances but went with the Miele...Hope you get your problem resolved. Kathie...See MoreOT: Cooking a turkey in a steam oven
Comments (0)just curious if anyone has done this and if so if you could offer any recipes or advice. I am charged with cooking thanksgiving dinner this year and have been considering cooking the turkey in the steam oven (Wolf). A few years ago I had taken a cooking class at one of the Miele galleries in Wellesley, MA - they cooked turkey in the Miele speed oven or steam oven can't remember which and then in the regular oven. they brined one and didn't brine the other... anyway, my memory is too fuzzy on it. I know the Wolf Steam / Convection oven is supposed to be good for roasts, etc. but it is brand new to me and I don't have any experience with it so figured I'd reach out to GW for answers. Thanks so much and Happy Thanksgiving to you all....See Morelucypwd
