Need Countertop Help With White (not Creamy) Shiloh Cabinets
Comments (10)I am having a terrible time trying to choose a countertop. The problem is, I am not crazy about granite, and that's what everyone is trying to sell. What's wrong with me? According to every HGTV show, I'll never be able to sell my house without it! :) But I find granite to be dark, busy and cold. My kitchen is on the smaller side. It's a galley kitchen. It's almost all white with accents of navy blue. Think cottage style meets Ralph Lauren. The blue is in the upholstered window seats-- piped in white. The kitchen is a far cry from the big model homes, but our house is old and the kitchen suits its character. Although it's white, it still feels warm and cozy and the warm lighting helps a lot with this. The appliances are also white (not stainless...). Anywho...the floors are a pretty honey wood, the cabinets are professionally painted white with nickel knobs. My current countertop is white, and it's a cheap laminate that has lasted 20 years---raising 3 kids and a husband. And we did not baby it at all. I have Clorox sprayed the heck out of it. We have colored Easter eggs on it and God-knows what other messes we have made, and it always comes clean. It is just now showing it's wear and that's why I'm replacing it. I think I want another white countertop. I'm not afraid of doing laminate again, but when I say that to kitchen salespeople, they look at me like I need medication. (...and perhaps I do!) I don't want the EXACT same thing. I'd like it a little bit updated. But what is that?? Help. My countertops now have a matte finish. There is a super-shiny white forminca out there that would be different. Does anyone know about that? Does the shine wear off? Would it be TOO shiny for a kitchen..like WHOA, in the morning? I've gone on WAY too long, but I just want to know what other people do for countertops when they want to keep the look of their bascially-white kichen. Many thanks! Pictures and links so very much appreciated!...See MoreCreamy White and Soapstone Finished Kitchen with Pics!
Comments (82)Did you also DIY the vault in your ceiling? If you hired someone would you share the approx cost in your area? I know, it's nosy. I have a vaulted FR, 8 ft ceilings everywhere else and for some reason they dropped the kitchen ceiling to 7 ft. That's the first thing I'd like to change but I'm scared to even think about the cost! Really inspiring job you two did. I'd be in there all the time if it were mine!...See MoreBack with Finished Kitchen-creamy white & lots of windows
Comments (57)Here's a couple more pictures. First is of the cabinet above the fridge. We made it tray storage on the top because we use a lot of trays to dine outside in the summer. I have a flip up panel below the tray storage area that I use to keep my wok and a few other things. This is sort of a dummy panel in case I ever get a taller fridge. The pantry cabinet is in the hallway between my kitchen & dining room. I used a narrow Ikea cabinet and then customized the remaining space to hold the Swiffer, brooms etc. In order to get this to work we had to knock the walls in this tiny space. It was a ton of work just to gain 4" but the pantry area now functions beautifully. A few have asked by cabinet color...it's a custom lacquer match to my the trim color in the rest of my house. The trim color was custom mix I did many years ago. It took several tries to get the lacquer to match but it was worth it. My window trim is painted with the oil trim paint and it matches my cabinet perfectly. newbie--I am not actually in Chicagoland...I'm in north central Indiana so I'm not sure it would help. The flooring integrated perfectly..you can't tell at all. We had the dining room refinished so the colors match. Theanimala--yes your pulls were my inspiration. Thank you so much! I will get the paint color formula and post it later this week. Again, thank you everyone for the kudos. For all of you still in the remodel process, don't despair. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I thought it would never end, especially since it was mostly a DIY project, but in the end it was well worth the time and struggle. Hang in there!...See MoreKitchen Style Question re: Creamy White Cabinets
Comments (16)Pbear,you have expressed my same concerns. I had every permutation going with soapstone and wood counters, but now think my 8' ceiling will also make it too heavy. I saw a lovely kitchen in a home for sale yesterday with a sort of china white (maybe darker) cabinet color, kashmir or bianco romano counter, perhaps a crema marfil small subway marble backsplash, and a honey colored oak floor. Very pretty, but worried maybe a tad bland. It was very monochromatic, but calming. Other than soapstone, I really love marble counters, but thought what I saw was a possible alternative to the look. Anybody have pictures with the kashmir type of granite and off white cabinets? I have searched here and found almost nothing. A also saw in a May Traditional home magazine a BM color on the cabinet called misty air used with a gray mystic stone backsplash. However the counters were stainless with a zinc edge (too cold for me). Any thoughts on using kashmir granite counters with misty air cabinet color and gray mystic stone backspash?...See Moresabjimata
