After reading the above comments, you stated that you wished you had grey grout... Well, I love the white grout. Really, it is classic, the tiles do stand out, and in the long end, you will be happy. Let the beautiful work of the cabinets and counters be the prize, and then the backplash is the hidden gem. With grey grout, would everything have competed for attention? Maybe.. White grout makes these classic tiles even classier if that makes any sense.

This is DIY? I've said this before but DIY'ers leave my in awe of their talents and vision. I love the cabinet feet, the lighting, the long counter under the window, the paint colour and how they all tie into the cabinetry. Beautifully done.

Perfectly brilliant.
I love the nook of cubies above the microwave and the
soft feet under the cabs give the floor cabs elegance.
The rich warmth of the floors and soft soapstone make
this space classic but the tile gives the kitchen a little
twist of delight. The light fixture sconces bring it all
together with another flash of classic joy.
The basil sage wall color brings out the nature outside
your windows.

I just love the soapstone beautiful rich counters! I love the cabinets and the color Ivory White paint used on them! I love the new appliances. I love the color of the walls. I love the teak floors so much! What width are your hardwood floors? Thanks for sharing such a gorgeous kitchen renovation!

Lilijohn - the paint color is Ryegrass from Behr. But we color matched to use BM paint.

Lynn- the floors are 3.5 inch wide. They are armstrong, prefinished teak. Which we found at Home Depot. However, we were never able to find it on Armstrong's Website.

You two did a beautiful job with the kitchen. I'm hoping to have a similar looking kitchen and am trying to figure out what to use for the backsplash. I know subway tile is classic but I'm afraid it may end up looking so 2010's and would love to find something just a bit different. So I was thinking of using an arabesque shape also... were the tiles expensive? Oh, they probably are and then I'll be back to subway. :)

I love the quality of the work on the cabinets. I wish we had been able to afford having cabs with hinges like that. I don't know what you call it but we had to settle for the cabinet doors laying on top of the frame of the cabinet instead of inset into the cabinet like you have here. Give that hubbie a great big hug for the beautiful work he did to make this kitchen superb!

I'm so inspired. There's so much in here to love. I like how the corner by the stove is done and especially the open cabinet above the micro wave. Just lovely. Back to the drawing table!

I had to switch back and forth between old and new multiple times because I couldn't believe the incredible transformation. Very well done! As others have said (and I'm sure you already know) you have a very talented hubby. The cabinets are drop-dead gorgeous. As is that stretch of soapstone counter below the windows. What a great place to work!

How did you like painting with BM Impervo? We will need to repaint our painted woodwork and it's likely a job I'll take on (I'm a great wall painter) but I'm not sure what paint to use. TIA!

Onerae -the floors are Armstrong. We got them at Home Depot. Solid hardwood,teak. Armstrongs nor HD's website show the floors. I hope they are not discontinued :(

Painter girl - we are in the new haven area, but hubby works in fairfield county. We moved up this way a few years ago...

Lisa- learning to paint with the Impervo was a challenge. It's much different than oil paint. I used a latex paint extender...it helped with the paint setting up so quickly. BUT I have to say, when finally got the hang of it..it paints beautifully!!! I want to repaint the rest of my interior trim with the same paint. The water clean up and low odor was a dream. Not to mention that once it cures for 24 hours...it sands like oil paint :)

I notice you have stacked cabinets like I do with an appliance garage extended to the counter. I also see you have a piece of trim hiding the seam where the two cabinets meet. That'w what I need to do!!!! I knew something was wrong but couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks for the photos, now I know what to do. Did your cabinets come with the trim piece?

Aha! I see your husband made the cabinets so scratch that question about did the trim piece come with the cabs, lol. I looked at the pics and didn't read the thread . . . snagged!

Wow I'm so impressed. Your hubby did a fantastic job. I take it he's a carpenter or cabinet maker.

Lisa - we did 2 coats of primer, a good sanding, then 4 and in some cases 5 coats of the Impervo. We lightly sanded in between coats. But I have to say, the more I painted, the less sanding we needed to do :)

Most folks say only 2 finish coats, there is no way I could have hung those cabinets with only 2 or 3 coats. They would have probably looked ok...but a closer look would have told a different story.

Worth the extra time to add another coat or two.

Did you also DIY the vault in your ceiling? If you hired someone would you share the approx cost in your area? I know, it's nosy. I have a vaulted FR, 8 ft ceilings everywhere else and for some reason they dropped the kitchen ceiling to 7 ft. That's the first thing I'd like to change but I'm scared to even think about the cost!

I LOVE your soapstone, just the perfect amount of movement for my taste, but I have never heard of Morisol soapstone. I wonder what that variety would be closely related to.....
