Backsplash Help for Creamy white cabinets, soapstone...
Comments (19)Bestyears, My cabinets were painted in the factory and called antique white, but I can tell you that it is a near perfect match to BM's Marble White OC34. Thanks for the photo, this is all so helpful. I am in the process of calling marble yards and getting pictures sent to me, and saw some in person. I really love the largest tile in my photos as I feel that the deep charcoal vein and warm tan veins, with the clear white background is most complementary to my kitchen. Finding that is proving to me most difficult. Makes me think that subway or marble mosaic is a much easier choice. But then again I have waited this long to find the right thing... I am so grateful for all the ideas and help you all have given me. I was on the building forum a ton about 5 years ago when we built our house and I could not have done it without all the wonderful support, ideas and knowledge! Comments (20)Thanks everyone! cjurek, my sink is a Shaw fireclay sink, the 30" size. I love it. I go over to it and surreptitiously stroke it. Same with the soapstone. Lavender Lass, the soapstone is just regular old Green Mountain soapstone. I tried to pick slabs with minimal veining and I'm happy with that. However, there's one big chunky vein on the little mini-counter near the ripped up stairway on the right. I love that too. It's got little flecks of the palest green sparkly stuff, it's so pretty I want to eat it....See MoreWould this work with a creamy white cabinet?
Comments (14)I've seen this configuration in a number of layouts and I typically say "why put the people at sink and range back to back when you have all that space?" Also...Do you have a minimum of 4 feet between them? I lived with a cramped kitchen but at least we had 4 feet of aisle. Try a mock-up using cardboard boxes and go through a couple scenarios using two people moving between sink and range. And practice opening the range door with another person in the aisle. Those handles are interesting but they are also heavy in feel and they introduce the wrought iron theme. Hmmm. Wood... A few open wooden shelf uppers? legs on the island? trim o the windows and doors? Stained wood doors? Stained beadboard somewhere? A great antique piece? a freestanding butcher's block? A segment of butcherblock on a countertop...perhaps in reclaimed wood? A curtain rod? a wooden Hoosier cabinet? light fixtures with some wood trim? treenware on display? a Danish modern table set? a chair rail or wainscotting? a plate rail near ceiling? wood trim on pot rack or utensil holder? stools/chairs? picture frames? We put a wood-lined niche over the range instead of a tile backsplash. I'd consider a wood floor. We have one lab dog and a very busy inside/outside relationship with outdoors. As long as we sweep occasionally, our oak floor will be pretty forgiving and we're not expecting the new floor to stay pristine. We assume we'll put new coats of Ace Hardware waterbased urethane on it occasionally. Much easier on the back and feet than a stone or tile floor....See MoreCreamy white cabinets and white marble? Need overnight decision!
Comments (7)Well, I don't have exactly for what you're looking but I do have a (mostly) white kitchen with (white) marble atop the white cabs: I love it! I love the white on white and find it incredibly soothing, timeless and easy on the eye (not so much contrast). But that's me. I also appreciate ccombs1' point but it makes me think of ahneb's kitchen (never posted a finished kitchen so don't bother looking in the FKB -- instead, do a search on GW). She has creamy cabs and a white marble. Also, do a search for erikanh: she's posted lots of beautiful inspiration pictures with creamy / white cabs and white marble .... (just did a search and here's the link to ahneb's photos.) But before you decide on a white marble, do first look at your fabricator's remnants -- you never know what gem you might find! (By the way, I love Virginia Mist -- it is so pretty!)...See Morebcafe
