Kitchen Style Question re: Creamy White Cabinets

I just have a general question about kitchen styles.

I've definitly decided to have creamy white cabinets in a flat recessed panel door style. They're not exactly Shaker style, but they're pretty simple. And I will have oak hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances.

If I go with a black or some variation of black countertop, whether it's Absolute Black, Cambian Black, some honed black granite, etc., what style does that suggest? Is it vintage, classic. Or does it all depend on accessories and appliances?

If I go with a lighter granite such as my favorite (and most expensive) Costa Esmeralda,or a creamier one such as Giallo Ornamentale, what style does that suggest?

I had thought all along that I wanted a beautiful black and white kitchen, but now I'm worried it might look to heavy and overbearing in a small kitchen (about 12 x 14). I also have only 8 ft. ceilings.

When I look at the Costa Esmeralda next to my cabinet door sample, it reminds me of an "English Country Cottage" look (just something I made up).

Just wondered what your thoughts are.

Thanks!
