I should add that these photos are at the final leg of the remodel so it doesn't capture the decor but I keep it pretty bare anyhow with just some simple white pitchers, plates and ceramics in the open shelves. Here is the window seat.

Before you run around your kitchen naked, I'd get some coverings on those windows. Sorry, I couldn't help it. How about some nice roman shades?

I'm with Suzanne, keep 'em naked. Your windows are beautiful in and of themselves, you've already got softness and texture on your window seat. Keep it simple!

Do you have neighbors to the back? If no then I'd for sure just leave them naked because there shouldn't be an issue if you are running around naked and the windows are naked......

The window seat looks out to the neighbors and I might cover that one. I am of the less is more camp and tend to cover only if there is a privacy issue - wouldn't want to be sitting watching tv or reading at night with the house lit up and the whole world able to see me as they drive by or whatever. Otherwise it wouldn't bother me to have them uncovered.

As others have said it's a really nice comfortable space and does not look stark without.

Keep 'em naked AND cover 'em up!

Let me explain -- regular curtains are going to be a little difficult because two of your windows are "framed" by built in cabinetry, which makes it a awkward to install curtain panels -- there's not enough room to extend the curtain rods beyond the perimeter of the windows. This means that the curtains will cover up the sides of the windows, even when open.

If I were you, I'd consider getting tension rods and hanging whatever curtain/fabric suits your mood. You can even switch it up for the different holidays and hang wreaths and decorations from the rods.

If you do a search for "tension rod window" on Pinterest, you'll see some good examples (plus a lot of not so good examples). There's even an example of burlap on a tension rod. ;-)

You have really nice windows, and it looks like there is room in the window frames to place a tension rod. No holes, no mess.

And you can still go naked - jut take the rods down. Voila!

Your kitchen is gorgeous! I'd leave it as is, and I like the sparse decor. IMO most people have too much clutter, and I include myself in that category.

I love your windows bare as long as they are insulated windows and do not need to be covered to keep out the cold. I would put either a tension rod with sheers or sheer horizontal blinds so you can have light in but some privacy and also open them for more light or pull them up. I have these in my family room that is open to the kitchen and I love them so much. I wish I did not have a sliding door in the kitchen as that is what I would want in my kitchen also.

Yes, zipcode pillow. I live in the Boston area so it was part of my 'Boston-Strong' inspiration. Okay, tonight I'm mocking up a tie-up valance window treatment with some burlap and ribbon - simple - no -sew. Will post once it's done to get some consensus. But going naked is tempting :)

So pretty and I really like the paint color. I would do tortoise shell woven shades mounted on the inside.

I like naked windows but I don't like being too on view to the neighbors (especially if I'm naked), nor the reflection at night (especially if I'm naked!)... and as a neighbor I don't like someone else's light shining in my windows (especially if they're naked). So perhaps the tension rod idea with sheers you can slide open in the day. On the windows. I'll wear my fleecy robe.

I was going to say naked (ours are naked but we have no neighbors behind us and it's heavily wooded) but I really like suzette's solution. The tension rod idea is perfect.

So our yard is pretty private so that part wasn't the issue for me - but the white kitchen just feels stark as we head into winter and the early sunset with just darkness out led me wanting something pretty to frame the window - not necessarily for privacy - just ambiance. Just went to Jo-Anns - got some burlap and ribbon and threw this together in about 10 minutes. What do you think?

I think it's pretty. And gosh, if it was that simple, quick and inexpensive to do, when/if you get tired of it it's easy to switch out.

Here a few ideas you can go with shades or even longer curtains .... I have brushed nickel faucet and cabinet pulls and a stainless sink,...you may follow this one.....

So envious of people that can just throw something like THAT together, very nice! I think it's a perfect option with the tension rod. Like blackchamois said, you could change it out just as often as you'd like or seasonally (not necessarily holiday but as the seasons change).

It does add some texture but doesn't feel heavy. I don't think you can lose either way. If you feel in the winter it needs something then go for it!

That's was I was thinking - since these cost under $6 each to make and required no sewing (I hot glued the fabric over the tension rod) I could easily swap out the Tie-Up ribbons seasonally - maybe use a nautical canvas braid in the summer months or a nautical navy & white stripe - and if I get sick of them in a year, it was $24 well spent, right? Also, seeing them in the morning light with the sun shining through them I like them even more - burlap is surprisingly sheer - lighter looking in day.

Another vote for no window treatments.

Debated this myself for my own kitchen and decided to leave the windows without any shades or curtains.

Without any plantings to hide the berm to your neighbor's driveway and garage, I'd want some interest in the windows. My idea is to hang some simple wreaths on ribbon inside all three dining room windows for the fall and winter. Put a summery valance on for spring and summer. In the spring I'd plant so you'd have some bird activity for the winter. Boston winters are long!

We have naked windows too and our kitchen is very similar to yours. Was thinking of Roman shades like you whipped up because I've found so many fabrics I love. But I also really like the minimal look of no treatments.

Love the burlap and I think the ribbons look perfect for winter holidays. Agreed that sometimes rooms feel nicer when they are 'warmed up' for the winter with fabric.

How about "almost" naked? I'm not a fan of busy window treatments for a contemporary kitchen. I put in inside mounted honeycomb shades, which are most often up, but give me privacy and additional insulation when I want it. Lovely kitchen by the way!

Rebeccamom, there are so many people with the same dilemma, we should start a "show me your kitchen window" thread. I also have a finished kitchen with a naked window. While these are my backyard neighbors, I also live in New England and the window feels stark when the leaves come down. I just purchased Levolor cellular white blinds which they custom cut at the store and are really reasonable. It is still in the box and awaiting DH's next day off. I thought it would still give me the naked look, but could pull it down on those cold evenings that have already started. I saw some custom roman shades online at jcpenny, but I need to call to find out if I can get fabric samples.

I'm new to this forum so I'll give my two cents. I think it's what you feel comfortable with. If you live in an active neighborhood, you might want some privacy in the evenings. During the day, usually people can't see in unless they're outside your window. I like the idea of honeycomb shades. They have a clean look. You can use them when you need to & lose them when you don't.

I really like it! It lends natural texture to your rooms in addition to some privacy. I can just imagine what you'll do with the shades for holidays.

I got the burlap at Jo-Anns fabrics and they did have gray and cream colored as well. they also had one with French script on it but hat one was too busy for my purposes. Not sure about dying it though.

If your house is in the right setting, (privacy wise) I prefer naked windows as well. In our whole house, we have only a few windows with any type of coverings, and those are mainly West facing for the afternoon sun.

I think that you're good with the burlap and it's easy enough to ditch when you decide that you want a different look. If you happen to have some additional burlap and a pillow form, I might make a burlap pillow also to put on the bench to tie everything together a little more (not sure if that would be overkill or not...might have to look at it to see how that would be)...if you have some fuseable tape, you could put together the pillow in just a few minutes.

Oh, and I love that in the picture showing the close up of the burlap on the window, we can see your pants, which appear to be the right colors for your kitchen! Good job in coordinating that too. :)
