Have you used your house crown moulding for your kitchen cabs?

I am thinking of using my house crown moulding painted in off white like it is in the rest of the house for the top of my kitchen cabs. Have you ever seen this done? I plan to have maple cabs with dark burgendy stain. If you have pics to share, that would be great.

My GC designed the moldings in my kitchen to be similar, but not the same as, the moldings in my dining room and living room. The kitchen moldings are stained, the dining room and living room moldings are painted. I think that painted moldings wouldn't have had the look I wanted. (That green paint is going!)

vjrnts, is the type of wood for your kitchen moulding same as the kitchen cabinet wood? I don't think my house moulding is the same wood as my cabs so I am not sure how it would look if I just stained the moulding same as the cabs.

kelleg: not sure if you've already had to make this decision, but just in case...our's finally is up and remembered this post. Our crown is 6 5/16", one piece, using it over the whole house (in the dining room we've got a different crown below the tray). We had our cabinet guy match this crown to the kitchen cabs. Nutherokie- i can not thank you enough for that!!!!!!I have been stressing over this, as I really want my end pieces in the grey and the middle white.I kind of thought if it is done right it will be okay, esp. since my end pieces will stick out more thn the middle, as yours does.The ends will be 24 all the way up( one a frig, one a pantry-and then I'll have the 15' uppers inbetween.I will print this out for the cabinet maker!! I've got simple board and cove on mine, to match my own simple bungalow window and door trim. Sorry, I don't have a better photo on hand, but you get the idea: Do try to match your current house molding if at all possible. In my experience, compared to the prices that commercial cabinetry companies demand for molding, it's comparatively inexpensive to have matching crown custom cut at a woodshop, as long as you do all of it at once. (They charge one set-up fee no matter how much you'll be having done.) Since you'll be painting your cabinetry (I think?), you can have it made in a more inexpensive wood like pine or alder. Enjoy! Who told you the plants are the problem? From your description it sounds like either bad construction or material failure, not something that happened over the course of one winter due to indoor plants. I've never had mold issues (even growing indoor plants in extremely humid south Florida), and ~30 plant pots shouldn't be causing your house to basically rot. Does your location usually have really harsh winters with a lot of snow and ice? Are you repairing the windows or did you hire someone?

Yes, the kitchen molding is oak, like the cabinets. If you want to stain your moldings, I think they'd almost have to be the same wood, especially if it has strong grain like oak does.

I did. I have a kitchen that is part of one large open space with the breakfast room and the family room. I wanted to take the cabinets to the ceiling and not lose the crown in the rest of the space. We couldn't figure out any way to transition, and I didn't have a different look I had to have on the cabinets, so we pulled the crown in the kitchen down, put the cabinets up, painted new crown to match and put it up. The crown is stacked and about 6" high, so it would be similar to the one above wrapping all the way around -- not smaller over the window. The main cabinets are white, but we have a contrasting wall with a blue finish. I was a little unsure of how it would look there, but I think it looks really good both matching and contrasting.
