I use them. We have a lot of lighting, including over the counter 4" recessed lighting and I still use the ucl.
Although my husband can't stand that I have on ucl's, recessed lighting and overhead lighting. I think it is more his concern over the electric bill though.

Now I will say that over 40 I have noticed the need for a lot more lighting than I used to require, so if you are a youngin perhaps that is why you don't need it yet!

I use my undercabinet lights as my primary lighting. Only turn on the ceiling fixture when I need a lot more light. I'm pushing 50.

I have mine on from the minute we enter the kitchen in the morning until we hit the hay at night. Mine have two settings - so I keep them on LOW all the time and boost them to HIGH when I need a bit more light.

I only turn on my overhead lights when I'm really cookin'.

I also keep the two pendants over the island on - all the time.

Use mine ALL the time - the most used lighting in my kitchen. But I don't care for overhead whole room kind of lighting anywhere - including the kitchen - just my personal preference.

We have lots of lighting in our kitchen and made sure that they are all in different zones that can be turned on or off according to need. We got 3 zones for the undercabinet lighting (one is my desk), 2 for the potlights and 2 for pendants. There is only one zone of undercabinet lighting that we rarely use. But we knew that from the beginning and just felt that it would be odd to have one stretch of counter without lighting when the rest does have it.

I love the undercabinet lighting in particular in the morning. Half asleep I don't like having tons of light glaring at me. So I only turn on one pendant over the kitchen table and the undercabinet lighting to get breakfast ready.

Use mine all the time -- don't know how I ever lived without them. I, like another poster above, need more light as I'm getting older.

We use ours all the time. Our overhead cans in our kitchen are on 3 separate dimmers and and the undercabinet lighting is on 2 other dimmers; the light over the kitchen table is on another....(they are dimmers compatible with low-voltage lighting) so we have a lot of control over the lighting. We find that we use the undercabinet lighting most in the mornings and evenings. The ambiance is incredible, especially when entertaining!

In our kitchen, we rarely do any significant prep on the perimeter runs b/c we use the island. So we don't use the UC light very often. However, when we do work there, we do use them. For example, we always use the UC when we mix drinks at our beverage center.

I didn't have them before the renovation. I added them and use them all the time. When it's cloudy or rain during the day, there's enough natural light through the windows but not enough at the countertops. That's when I need the undercabinet lights the most.

Alku, about "always" when mixing drinks...yeh, I wouldn't want to short myself on a skosh of the good stuff either. LOL

With a condo kitchen with no windows we use our undercabinet lighting all the time. In the evening it is much softer lighting than having he overhead recessed can lights on. We'd be "in the dark" without them.

We very rarely use ours - it is nice to have, but I knew this would be the case as I never have used it in anywhere else I lived. My husband likes it more than I do. I sometimes will use one set (we have them on two separate switches for each side of the kitchen) if we want to keep a light on in the house or that area and it not be too bright.

That is the first thing in the house that my wife turns on. Seriously, we could enter in from any door in the house and she makes a direct line to go turn on the under counter lights. She loves them. She just thinks that it makes the counters and backsplash and appliances look great and she likes the added light even though we have plenty of light.

To think, we almost did not get them.

I "almost finished" my remodel in August and I've turned them on only to show someone I have them. I do get the ooh's and ahhs so I probably should use them more, just never think of it.

I find I use ours a lot when cleaning the countertops. They really help me see what I'm doing, despite having the can lights on over the counters. They really eliminate the shadows that used to drive me crazy when I was working in the kitchen.

We use ours daily. The overhead lights work fine, but it's nice to have that extra cabinet lighting beam down on the working surface. I like using them for aviance too especially the one in the corner of our L-shaped kitchen layout.

Our lighting usage -

1. 40% undercounter lighting (for prepping)
2. 40% under hood lighting (for cooking)
3. 10% recessed lighting (only during parties or major cooking)
4. 10% pendant lighting

I love the way mine illuminate my backsplash and use them all the time.

I'm 50 and I don't just LOVE mine, I have to use them if I want to see what I'm doing. I also don't have a huge amount of natural light AND I have dark counters. When I had cruddy off-white laminate, I was OK, so the color of your counters may make a huge difference. I don't regret the dark granite at all, because of the u/c lights.

I used to use mine all the time when we had "regular" celing mounted fixtures in the kitchen. Now we have recessed lighting and am amazed at the amt of light I now have and how it encompasses every corner of the kitchen and counters. I've not used them since. I'm 48 and the new recessed lighting was a big welcome!

I rarely use mine, even though they were very high on my list of wants. I think it's because the color is too "cool" (they're fluorescent) and it makes the backsplash and counter look a little gray. I have in my head that I will swap out the bulbs for a warmer shade of light and use them more. It's on the list of things to do. (sounds like I make lots of lists, doesn't it?)

We never had undercabinet lighting until we did this remodel, and I LOVE them. I use them quite often - particularly in the early mornings before sun-up when I make coffee. The light that I turn on the LEAST is the one directly over the sink.

BTW, I just passed the half-century mark.

I use them all the time. I love the way they dispel the shadows. I use them so much, I don't even have to look for the light switch anymore, my hand just automatically finds that one switch among the 2 others.

They are always on for mixing cocktails! We don't always turn them on for daily puttering but they are fantastic when doing food prep, following new recipes, and clean up. They also showcase our backsplash really well... Since we have a cabinet above the sink, that light is almost always on (our only flourescent fixture).

Rarely use our undercab lights. Our remodel has been just about complete for 2 1/2 years now. I like them on dusky/dark mornings while making coffee because they're easier on my eyes than overhead light. But generally I prefer the overhead lighting adjustable by dimmers.
