How much under cabinet lighting do I need?
Comments (4)I'm another in the "as much as I could get" camp for light under the cabinets. I like a lot of light when I'm working, and I don't have much interest in "mood" lighting. Mine are xenon with a high/low toggle, so I can have a softer glow if I ever want one. This is a 42" cabinet and we have three 12" bars (6 lights total). Got lucky - Lowes was closing out of the White and I got them for $8 each instead of the $24 regular price. Now they only have the black model in stock....See Moreunder cabinet lighting vs under cabinet paper towel dispenser?
Comments (36)If anyone is interested, contrary to my own plan I wound up installing the UC panels under the front of the cabinets instead of the back. I did this everywhere except the PT holder. There, I mounted one just behind it, not all the way to the rear. The choice for me was simple: I could see the panels in the back and not in the front. The PT holder hides the panel to an acceptable degree, and there is no noticeable inconsistency between the PT panel and the next one in front thanks to excellent diffusion. The glare/reflection I worried about is not a factor and I've got a dual wireless dimmer mounted to the wall. Very happy with the results! Thanks again to everyone for your help. Btw, I used "Independence" dimmers and "Designer" panels both by InspiredLED. Peter did a good job, quickly providing plans and suggestions and also fixing a hiccup when a piece arrived defective....See MoreUnder Kitchen Cabinet Lighting: Do I Need It?
Comments (21)Because everyone said we needed them, we installed them when redoing our kitchen and I almost never use them. I think it depends on your work habits and kitchen layout. We have our sink at the window with an overhead pendant. We have lights in our stove vent for cooking. We do almost all of our prep work at the island which has overhead lights. This covers all of our work zones so I rarely feel the need to turn them on. We do have ours on a dimmer, so when we're having guests, I may turn them on dimmed just to have a warm glow. We installed them ourselves and just used off the shelf LED ones from Lowe's, so it wasn't a significant amount of money. Now that I see how we do use them, I would never spend that kind of money on them. I guess you need to think about how you'll use your kitchen and decide....See MoreCan I change cabinet config after install?
Comments (21)The pantry door hits the wall. Also, there isn’t enough space between the bottom refrigerator door, that opens outward and the cabinet next to my oven, which you can’t see in the picture. So, when you want to get something out of the freezer, you have to walk around the door and stand on the side of it. A counter-depth refrigerator might help a little but won’t solve the problem completely. Also, by moving the drawers to other side, they no longer align properly with the top cabinets, such that the smaller drawers and smaller cabinet should align and the bigger, likewise. Now, the smaller drawers are under the bigger cabinet....See Moreprairiegirlz5
