What do you think of the Ikea Omlopp under cabinet lights?

I managed to buy a bunch of Omlopp lights on clearance. It's hard to tell how bright the lights are in Ikea because their overall lighting is so bright.

I think I can light the entire kitchen including inside the glass cabinets and inside some drawers for $70.

It looks as if the LEDs from places like Environmental etc... are all plug ins as well. I didn't see much hard wiring around unless you spend several hundreds on transformers.

Does anyone have the IKEA undercounter lights? If so, what do you think about the brightness?

I installed some Omlopp drawer lights last year. One strip stopped working and Ikea tells me there is no warranty. Other strips plugged into the same transformer still work. Considering how expensive they are and how little time the lights are actually on, I'm upset. They probably cost a few dollars an hour for the time the drawer was open.

I wonder why they are on clearance? Are they discontinuing the line? That is a good price. We spent about $700 on all the lighting parts I think. (Which was fine, since it got us to a $600 gift card in the sale.)

I just wrote yesterday about [my experience on this thread[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/ikea-under-cab-lights-and-outlets-dsvw-vd~3764783) with the Omlopp counter lighting. We also bought one light for each of our drawer bases. We only have one base installed so far, so I have only done one drawer light.

I'll repeat here: Don't use the 30w transformers with the lights. They buzz. The 20w transformers are fine.

I did the installation myself, and it was fairly easy, although not necessarily easy to get them perfectly lined up in a line. (My SO is a perfectionist freak and wants to redo the ones that are just a fraction off. I'll let him after the cabinets are installed someday.)

I will post some pictures later when I can. They seem pretty bright when on full setting, but it is hard to say, because we do not have a counter yet.

The drawer lighting delights me every time I open the drawer. Not sure we "need" light there, but it makes me happy to have the top drawer illuminated.

Thank you Lisa for your feedback.

Someone returned their purchase and I talked the manager into putting them out on clearance instead of restocking. They were shipped out and had tons of labels that needed to be scraped off.

It was serendipity that I was there chatting at the door of the storeroom when I saw them in the processing baskets. $4/light that are still $45 full price.

I'll have to check the transformers that came with them.

You don't say if you are trying to meet Title 24 in California but just in case... The 3000K warm color LED's from Juno don't meet Title 24 efficacy requirements. The 5000 do but the entire track system doesn't meet title 24 because you can easily change the lamp sockets to hold something else. Juno has new stuff coming out end of the year. I don't know the lumen output per LED. We have a sample of this but haven't messed with it enough since it doesn't help with CA Title 24.

Let's see what I can remember... I don't think I saw white shaker doors. In addition to the new ash fronts, there's going to be a walnut or walnut-look front (not sure if it's foil or walnut textured laminate) with an integrated handle at the top of drawers and handles on the side of the doors, something like the Godmorgon vanities in the textured oak laminate. They're keeping the high gloss Ringhult white (I think it's their bestseller) but probably the Ringhult grey will be discontinued. As an alternative to the Ringhult, they will introduce a new line of less expensive high-gloss fronts in white, cream and some other colors. Also, the yellow accent doors will be replaced with orange ones.

Thank you all for the responses! And Bpath- If I go, I will ask about the floor :) Writersblock- That was my concern, too. It is laminate and it's a good price...but it's not that much more on the Ikea website. We would be cutting out a pretty big section for the drop in sink...so maybe I'll keep looking. I still want something light green, blue or aqua. I know, almost everyone says to go with something neutral....but it's only 2/3 of the counter on one side of the kitchen. And half of it is going to be big white sink! LOL Does anyone actually use this type of counter top? Now, I'm wondering if it's going to work if I cut out a big hole for a 46" drop in sink??? Not my sink...but looks a lot like this one. Again, my friend gave it to me, when remodeling.

Temperature is important, but pay attention to CRI (color rendition index) for undercabinet lighting, or wherever you prepare food. Lots of cheap LEDs and fluorescents have CRI's in the low 80's or worse and will make your food look like it comes from a zombie. (If the manufacturer doesn't tell you the CRI you can assume it's lousy.) LED's don't put out a full spectrum of light so require special (ie expensive) tricks to get good color rendering. You want a CRI of at least 90, I would argue anywhere, but at the least in food prep areas and illuminating art. Incandescent lamps have a CRI of 100.

I checked the transformers that I got and they were 20W. I added up all the lights and with the addition of 3 Striberg motion detector light and 2 more transformers, my cost just went from $60 to $175.

The Omlopp drawer lights that I need are $36 to $40 each. No wonder you ran up to $700. I think I will skip those for now.

That is quite a bargain you found! That is good they are the 20w. [It is a common problem but somehow Ikea doesn't know about it. [(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/ikea-cabinet-lighting-issue-dsvw-vd~3057767)I exchanged my 30w for the 20w and told them it was a common problem, and I don't think she believed me.

The drawer lights are fun, but not necessary. If we were buying the lights now instead of at the beginning, when we hadn't spent lots of $$$ already, I may have not wanted to splurge for them.

I got two 24" strips and a transformer with three sockets (supposed to be able to handle three strips). Works fine with one strip (high/low /off). When second strip is plugged in both start blinking on high setting. Went back to the store, talked to salesman, he suggested to thy another transformer. Did not help. Will return the whole setup.
