Backsplash help - should I tile both runs?
Comments (12)Wow, didnt expect there to be so much agreement! That short side is 39 inches long with 30 inch deep counter. Yes, that is my tile pictured. Though I couldn't make it any smaller, so the scale is off. That's a 12 inch sheet pictured, so it would be smaller IRL. I guess it is a little busy, but all the same so I think it will not be overwhelming. It is MOP diamonds from builderelements.com, the only place I can find it. They are a bit restrictive, so if I order enough for both areas and decide not to tile the small area I can't return it. And if I want to order more, there is a 5 sf minimum. Not the end of the world, but at about $19/sf it's already a bit of a splurge. I seem to have good taste in tile, anything else I like seems to be at least 50% more so I just keep scrolling before I fall in love!...See Moreglossy vs matte: backsplash finish question
Comments (2)Thank you! Fori: I love your sassy sense of humor. Now let me ask you this: after I posted my question, I came to find out that a 3" x 6" glass subway tile is in our budget (but just by the skin of its teeth). That'd be too much sparkle, right? We're figuring ~45 square feet. We're doing fluorescent undercab lighting, so the light wouldn't "highlight" it much. Hmm....See MoreAdvice on matte glass backsplash? Can finish be changed?
Comments (4)Etched glass has a rough texture that grabs everything and is difficult to clean. It is inert and cannot be enhanced or coated successfully. You might try a grout haze remover if repeated vinegar and water cleanings have failed....See MoreAdvice on matte glass backsplash? Can finish be changed?
Comments (4)Wow. There is some kind of acid cleaner that can be used to clean grout haze, But try some vinegar. wipe it on, let it sit a few minutes and scrub gently...scotch brite pads work well but GENTLY or your glass will scratch if you apply elbow grease. also use a lot of water on the pads. try this a couple times. as to the matte finish-you might like it better after cleaning, but the only thing that comes to mind is epoxy resin. it can be painted on thin thin coats. It can yellow with age, exposure to sunlight, and I dont know what else. and once you do it, you are stuck with it. Any other kind of sealer etc I can think of would be prone to peeling off with cleaning etc and that would look 10 times worse. and is it glass? or is the surface ceramic tile? that changes the game....See Morebabushka_cat
