Can't remove grout haze from black granite!

After our backsplash was installed we noticed hazy streaks and spots in one area of the countertop. We have absolute black granite countertops. The tile installer said the only thing he used was grout, no other chemicals.

I've tried to clean it with hot water and Method Granite cleaner, many times. It looks slightly better but still noticeable. Anyone have any idea why the grout would stain the counters? Or could it be that it etched them?

This is so frustrating. We've had many problems with this kitchen renovation but the tiler is "the best," highly recommended, etc. The actual backsplash looks great. But if he ruined the counter I'm going to be really upset.

Try a 1:1 vinegar/water solution. Use a regular sponge. Sorry your tile guy didn't already take care of it for you!

Have you picked up the stuff HD or Lowe's called Haze? It removes grout, but in particular the haze you're talking about.

No, it doesn't remove the grout between the tiles if you follow the directions. I've used it on several tile jobs in my home where the clean-up from the tiling people seems to be the part they always slack off on.

Haze. It works well!

Here is two tone grout installed out in UBC Vancouver. The floor is a mix of Italian White and Black Marble. To insure this was done perfectly I advised my clients (under my setter's recommendation) to allow the black grout to cure and be sealed. We left the black grout for over a week I think and then I installed three coats of enrich in seal. Then we taped off the floor a couple days later and did the white. Same process. Be careful with two tone grout installs. There is no room for error. And a mistake is set in stone sort of speak. Make up that test board and don't practice on your new floors. Good Luck. JW .

My guess is that you need an acidic cleaner to remove the grout haze. You might look at something like DuPont Stone Tech Restore. You could test it on an extra piece of tile or in a corner behind the toilet.

Sounds like a DIY accident to me ( Try turpentine , white spirits or ACETONE.You need a solvent. DO NOT SCRAPE! DEKTON kitchen worktops can be treated with different cleaning agents depending on the kind of stain that you are dealing with. *Not a tile pro* This looks like haze. It looks like Mapei flex color is a urethane/acrylic grout, which is notoriously quick drying and leaves haze that is tough to remove. There are urethane haze removers out there, but I would test it on your marble first to make sure it doesn’t damage.

Pretty poor tile installer if they failed to mask off the counter adequately.
