Finished Kitchen... might want to repaint.. thoughts?

I was wondering if you might think painting the back wall where the upper cabs are located a darker color? Maybe a nice khaki olive or something?

I like the idea and think it could look rich back there with a deeper color that sets off your tile, and gives some contrast to showcase the lighter wood, baskets, and dishware.

I like the idea. What about a gray somewhat like stainless steel gray? Or a lavender-gray? Or a brown-gray?

What colors are in the kitchen already?

Just an update: our contractor arranged for a KA certified repairman to come today. As you all suspected, it was a clogged drain line. The repair guy said it was better to remove the gasket rather than notch it - he said it's a tight space and is near the compressor, so it tends to get plugged up from the heat and pressure. He said he's done this at least 100 times, on all models of bottom freezer refrigerators. My contractor was very anxious to confirm it wasn't his fault. This all began after they installed the water line, so I was afraid there had been some mistake. It probably wasn't totally unrelated, since they kept the fridge in the kitchen throughout the demo but unplugged it repeatedly to move itmultiple times, frame it, and also to do a heavy up at the outset of the project. But it wasn't their error, clearly. This being a high cost area, I paid $145 for the fix, but truthfully I'm glad it wasn't more! (not long ago a clogged washer drain wound up costing $1k just for the plumber - I'm pretty sure we were fleeced on that one!) Thanks so much to all of you for pointing me in the right direction!

I filled holes with wood filler and sanding. Actually I don't think the putty is intended for painting over. I'm not sure what type of BM paint you painted with, but Satin Impervo Waterbourne should last many years and is specifically for cabinets and woodwork. If you didn't use that type before, I'd recommend using that this time. It has a gentle gloss, glossier than a typical satin. My cabinets have a semi gloss type of sheen and feel smooth, not chalky. Latex is acrylic just like oil is alkyd. My opinion, and I've seen this opinion expressed on other forums, is that there is no reason to use oil paint inside with the high quality latex out there today. Also, oil yellows with time while latex does not. So, if you are worried about yellowing, definitely don't go with oil. If you use Satin Impervo , you do not need a clear coat over it unless you use a glaze treatment. If you glaze the cabinets, clear coat with polycrylic, not polyurethane to avoid yellowing. With satin impervo, it worked best for me to load it up with a lot of paint quickly with a roller, then use a brush or foam stick to gently smooth it out. That particular type of paint does not lend well to overbrushing. However, I've seen professional painters on this forum say they prefer brushing it all on. We non professionals like the roller first.) The roller by itself leaves the orange peel affect. I think I've covered all your questions with the exception of paint color. I think chantilly lace might work for you, but I'm not as familiar with all the choices as are others on these forums.

Thanks for the kind comments. I really do love my kitchen, I think my cooking even tastes better since the remodel. :-) Loribee, I like the idea of using matchstick blinds under a valance, but I haven't seen any 80" long that are not custom ($$). Also wondered about the weight/ease of lowering and lifting with the matchsticks. I thought I could get some cheap roller shades that use a continuous cord loop. I question their durability, but I guess at $50 a piece, a replacement wouldn't be the end of the world. A few more fabrics I've been mulling over. Wish they weren't so expensive! From Fabricut: From Schumacher: A valance inspiration pic. I love the light feel of this kitchen. I feel torn between this look (with yellowy walls and a valance out of something like the Schumacher), or light green walls with something like the Robert Allen (first post) or Fabricut.... I think my kitchen has a LOT going on already, the wood floor/mixed wood cabinets. It's not a huge space, and with the island, table/chairs and banquette, I wonder if making a statement on the walls, or with fabric will make it look more busy. Thoughts?

Want to re-paint my basement in a darker color...suggestions?

We have a similar issue. Our basement color scheme is somewhat similar to yours except our walls are BM Soft Fern. We're adding some built-ins, re-doing the ceiling, and replacing the big flourescent humming lights with recessed cans. Like you, we have the man cave next door, which already has the recessed lighting (it was a later addition). My kids are older so I'm trying to make our room feel more like a family room/TV room rather than a "playroom." I'm looking at BM Stone Hearth but I'm not committed to it yet. I'm also planning to paint the trim and the built-ins NOT white. Not sure which color yet, but probably an off-white or maybe a lighter version of the wall color. I think that will warm up the space a bit. I know someone who recently painted her basement BM Oklahoma Wheat and she loves it. I'd advise against painting it in bright, kiddie colors -- you'll be repainting again in just a few years. We originally painted our basement a sunny yellow when it was first finished, and I had to paint it a couple years later because it was just too bright.

Check out Benjamin Moore alexandria beige. I used that with my bianco antico granite and it looks fabulous!!

I like the darker khaki idea because if you go with an olive toned shade, it would pick up what seems to be green from the tiles.
I love the light color dishes next to the dark wall.

I think the photo shopped darker color makes the upper cabinet wood look beautiful. I think it also compliments the mosaics.

Used BM Amherst Gray in a small hallway and it packs a great punch and gets tons of compliments. I think it has a very faint green undertone. I like the idea of a gray with a green undertone - it looks like you have some green in the tile, or maybe it is just my monitor. On the lighter side, bm light khaki is a great color, maybe you could go a shade or two darker.

I like it as is. It just feels clean and fresh. But you have to cook there! Darker works also.

I agree with fori that your kitchen looks great the way it is now. I wouldn't change a thing -- it is adorable! I don't think you would be wrong to go a bit darker if that appeals to you. But I would want to overpower the white cabinets below.

beautiful. And yes go for it. Paint the upper wall a
Khaki color. It will look even better.

I lean towards leaving it as is, also. The darker color makes the area seem smaller & a bit cave-ish; the light color you have now visually expands the area.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am thinking of keeping the wall the color it is for now. Thank you Monkey for the photoshop you did for me. It helped a great deal in visualizing what it could look like. We still have two baths to finish so I guess I will put it on hold so du doesn't kill me!
