Is there a farm sink that will fit existing cabs?

Ikea makes a farm sink that will fit existing cabs, atleast I'm pretty sure. But I'm thinking their double bowl is too big, and their single bowl is too small. (My existing sink is about 33".) I really don't won't to cut into my cabinets, since it would mess up the cabinet doors under the sink. Does anyone know if someone makes a farm sink that will fit existing cabinets, that weren't cut for a traditional farm sink? I hope this makes sense.

Rachiele makes one in copper or stainless, and they will do custom sizes (see link). They have a patent, but I honestly don't know what makes it so different than other options.

Also, Kohler has this option on their Whitehaven (enameled cast iron) and Vault (stainless) 7" apron front sinks, but I'm not sure if their sizes would work for you.

There may be other options, but those three definitely exist.

Thanks jsceva! Wow, that's very cool how Rachiele constructs an apon sink! Unfortunately, I think they're out of my price range. That Kohler looks interesting also. Thanks again for the tips, there may be hope.

I have almost NO room at all under mine. The garbage disposal just about fills it. In fact, if you look closely on the left door you can see the black marks were it rubs against the inside of the door. The GC had to rout out some relief to get the door to close completely. I also had to carefully wrap all the hanging cords around the drain pipe to clear a bit of storage space above the pipe for the fertilizer and watering bottle for my plants. Still, I got the sink and the look I wanted that has the sink sitting forward, seemingly on the legs (that's what brought the disposal up against the door). Think about what you want under there. I could have gotten a smaller disposer (I compost so use it infrequently). And I don't use a lot of cleaners. I also don't have things under there like instant hot water or a soap dispenser -- just the guts of an airswitch. If you want those things think about where they'll all go. All in all I'm very happy with the look and the storage works for me. But you should be aware going in that it's sparce!

Hi, everyone. This is my first time posting to this site... I'm several weeks in to a total gutting of the kitchen in my "new" (200-year-old) mill house. I'm going with a white fireclay farm sink undermounted in a slightly off-white cabinet base, with soapstone counters. EGAD! I ordered a 24" single bowl sink, and now am thinking it will look icky with all the filler needed to fit in the 30" sink base. But I got a great deal on it ($360 with free shipping) and to go the next size up (28") is like $700 plus the $50 restocking fee to send back the one I have now. The sales consultant doesn't advise going to a 30" sink in a 30" base b/c he says they'd have to "cut away at the base, ruining the integrity of the cabinet." Am I going to hate the smaller sink??? It's a tiny kitchen, so I am not so worried with the size of the sink and it's function, but more the look. Any advice/photos are appreciated. I've looked at a lot of shots and it looks like I should have gone with a smaller sink base, or a larger sink. Sheesh... live and learn! Thanks! Kirsten

I can't help with the original question, but I can -- somewhat -- with the "which" farmhouse sink question. Mine is a 30" Shaws, single bowl, undermount, drain about 1/3 of the way over, and it holds 2 days' worth of dishes...not that I ever let dishes pile up that badly :) I only looked at this and the Kohler, and fell in love with the Shaws. It has much chunkier sides than Kohler's, which I prefer (JMO). The two were comparably priced, about $800 each. I strongly recommend buying the Shaw's in person because each one is handcrafted (installation is a PITA), there are irregularities, and I rejected one when I went to pick it up; you don't want to be shipping a 130 lb box back at your expense if you don't like the one shipped to you. I suppose you could have a good cabinet installer build a false front "cabinet" around the front side, but I like having the big white front. Steve, I'm in the UK so am unfamiliar with Home Depot items. However, sinks in that price range over here I'd imagine would be similar, same gauge of s/steel etc and friends who have them hate stainless. Our sink in our old kitchen when we bought this house was a DIY store special I think ( everything the owners did was cheap and to enable a sale). It was the bane of my life. Hated it with a passion and vowed never to have stainless. Well, then I found this forum! I now have a kohler stages 45 sink and its 16g and obviously was £££ but I love it. Cleans up a dream and is very quiet too. It is a massive part of our kitchen functionality. So that was the only reason I said to get the best sink you can afford nothing specific about that sink ( though H.D do it in 16g and it is over $300 the one you linked is 18g which is still good but not the top) you are right that it is possible to remove a sink that is under-mounted and replace it especially if it has been installed with a cradle system like HUSH, undo the cradle, loosen the silicon round the sink and it will come free. however, if the sink is as big as the cabinet or almost and the cabinets have been messed with to enable it to fit it will not be possible to get that sink out of there without breaking into that cabinet that's really why I said originally, try and go for the best sink now rather than come unstuck.

We are in the same situation. The Rachiele sinks were WAY out of our price range. We opted for a Copper farm sink from Coppersinksonline.

The sink base will have to be altered, my doors will have to be made smaller, but that's the plan. Carpenter said: No problem ;) There are quite a few people on GW that put farm sinks into existing cabinetry.

And we just got off the phone with the granite people and they'll be here next Monday to measure!!

There are a few shallower farm sinks - franke and barclay. You'll need one about 8 inches deep.

Its not done a lot in this country, but they can be up-mounted to fit an existing base cabinet. Atticmag has some info.

You'll need to remove the fake drawer front and top rail of the frame of the sink base if your cabinets are framed. The structure provided by the top rail will be replaced by the bracing holding up the sink.
