Need countertop help - KraftMaid Canvas

DH and I are struggling here to come up with some good options for our impending remodel- can others offer input?

Kitchen Cabinets - we are struggling here - I think we like the canvas color better than a pure white, but it appears a lot of the countertops we like would go better with a pure white.

Below are some of the options we were looking at - the gaping hole is light colored quartz counters that go with the Canvas color - does such a thing exist?

Counter-tops: I had always thought I would do Cambria Torquay, but after hearing the upcharge, I am trying to like another type of quartz. I'm also concerned that this marble-look is too cool for the warm canvas color of the counters.

Daltile Quartz in Nature Flecks in the color Luminesce (NQ75), but would like to see it against the cabinet color and flooring. Is it possible to see samples? http://products.daltile.com/series.cfm?series=439&item=6668&;

Flooring: 3in. Preverco Red Oak in Sierra (medium brown hardwood)

Welcome any thoughts people have.

It is really hard to make comparisons between whites based on pictures, so take this with a grain of salt--I thought that based on the manufacturer pics of the Luminesce seem "cooler" than the Torquay, and look correspondingly worse with the Canvas.

I did some imaging, and couldn't find a counter I liked better than the torquay with your cabinet combination. There are lots of cream and light beige quartzes that I think look really good with the Canvas; the problem is that they don't look good with the slate (the slate seems to run cool). If you are set on the slate, I think their dove white would work better with it. If you prefer the canvas, maybe there's a different dark stain that would work better (Peppercorn?).

Thanks cawaps- the conclusion that I keep coming to is that Canvas is the wrong color and the cabinets should probably be shifted to a pure white...

It seems the Canvas works better with darker counters, which i don't think we want.

I'm not really understanding when you say "stepping out by 3". We just bought a Kraft Maid kitchen. Several KDs told us we had to have at least a 33" wide cabinet to accommodate the cook top. 36" cooktop cabinets are much preferred but our island was just too long. We tweaked it where we could. It is difficult to install our Jenn-Aire downdraft cooktop in 33". The 33" cabinet has a short (back to front) drawer in the top but no shelves or drawers underneath. The width of the front part of our 2 teir island is 24" and the back is 12". We will hang the counter top over the front part of the island by a couple inches, I think, to give more plate room at the seating part in the back. If the cooktop downdraft works correctly, the steam, heat, etc. will get sucked down before harming the back tier's counter top. The downdraft is aligned perpendicular to the length of the island so I don't really understand how yours would "hit" the 2nd teir. I don't think the cooktop is anywhere near the 24" back to front that it needs to set into so there will be adequate space all around it.

I knew where the cabinets were purchased from before I read the entire post and I completely understand this story, but it is only half of it. Unfortunately the customer with good intentions, also doesn't know the whole story coming from KM's view and contract responsibilities with Home Depot. I have worked on thousands of kitchens and KM is a great Cabinet and company. Just don't buy them from homeowner Depot. There IS a difference. I have my very own bathroom from HD in KM cabinetry and then 3 yrs later my kitchen was done with KM but from John's Lumber where the trim carpenter purchases from. HUGE difference in QC. And this is VERY true with ALL big box products. As we PROFESSIONALS say big box product is good ( if you can call it that) only if your selling the house right away. Unfortunately you can only learn this first hand by actually tearing a product apart and comparing internal components.

Hi Tink! I've been coming here a LONG time. I don't remember the exact year, but definitely sometime in the 90's! I remember doing a "Netscape Search" (if that doesn't date me!!!) on how to take care of a raw butcherblock top...instead of a sealant. But anyway.... Yes, I sell other lines (from low to high): United Series by Legacy, Debut by Legacy, KraftMaid, Showplace Wood Products, Medallion, Holiday Kitchens and Plain & Fancy. Most builders wouldn't have allowances high enough to have a nice Medallion kitchen. At least that's true in my neck of the woods. So, I believe that your builder thought you paid a LOT more for the cabinets...you probably did. But, you won't have to spend the money to replace them in 12 to 15 years either. Most builder grade cabinets don't look nearly as good after that amount of time. When Medallion first came out with inset, we laughed. The price was SO high, it wasn't that much more for Plain & Fancy cabinetry!!! So, we didn't even bother getting brochures or displays. Since then, Medallion must have figured out they were too high and have since lowered their prices on inset. A while back they had a promo that really brought down their inset prices. I almost ordered a built in entertainment center for my home....that's how great it was. If you have a Showplace dealer in your area, you should check them out. Nice looking cabinet and less money than Medallion inset! But price out both just to be sure. And if you have a P&F dealer, give them a shot too! Their painted finishes are incredible!!! I would say that Brookhaven would be in the Medallion price range. Both are upper end semi-custom cabinetry. KraftMaid is middle of road semi-custom....while Debut is lower end semi-custom!

Where in PA? If near HB, check out Swartz kitchens for Shiloh. They did well on pricing for the painted cabinets. Lowes and Just Cabinets did almost the same on the Medallion brand , which are Schuler at Lowes. KM was best at the big box for me, due to the sales they often have. The Masterpiece just did not compare in quality to the others and the pricing was about the same. I live in York county and the private dealers I dealt with did not offer the best pricing and were not usually as receptive to my input.

Are you wanting a very solid color quartz?

I love Silestone's Alpina White. It is a warm tone, lots of tan and cream with gray/black. But it is speckled, which may not be your thing. The link below shows it on warm white cabs. If you google you can also get images with it on black cabs. I might use it on griege color cabs that I am considering (Diamond Cloud color).

Thanks for links- appreciate the feedback. I'm thinking I need to lean towards the Kraftmaid white if I am partial to a marble look countertop. I do like the canvas, but I am just convinced it wont work with the light version.
