Kraft Maid Cabinets
Comments (12)Ann, We just had Kraftmaid cabinets installed in December through a local KD. I'm sure we didn't get the best price, but her help was invaluable. She designed the book case at the end of the island, the crown molding, and figured out how to build in the Advantium and refrigerator. I'm sure HD guys could've done it too.. As for the cabinets- they seem to be good quality and slide very easily. The drawers are full extention- cool! never had that before! Doors and drawers are soft close- I think it is Blum motion. We got all wood boxes. The full overlay looks like inset, I think and am very happy with our choice. I just posted pictures yesterday, you can see them on this forum "Pictures of my new kitchen. Have fun designing! Joan Here is a link that might be useful: Pictures of my new kitchen!...See MoreMerillat or KraftMaid?
Comments (24)We did KM Ginger Glaze on maple, which I loved, for our kitchen remodel in our previous condo. Bought from HD and DIY install. A couple of doors were warped, and KM sent us new ones. We did KM again in our new home through a different HD: Toffee on birch for the mudroom & laundry, which looks blander than I'd expected--but maybe I didn't choose the right color counter top or paint; Sunset on cherry for the lower level walkout kitchen which I like just as well as the upstairs kitchen cherry cabinets without the cost of the glaze (which I forget the name of, but has since been changed). We had several warped doors (large order with 42" tall upper cabs) and a few other issues which we took digital pictures of and sent via internet to KM's rep via HD. Replacements were sent for all cabinet problems, but I'm sure that was partly because I'd itemized each problem with it's cabinet order # and a suggested solution on a spreadsheet and sent it with the accompanying photos. My husband went in to our HD with me when we ordered the cabinets, and again when we had the problems. He's more rational and diplomatic than I am, so that was a help! Also, our HD KD had been a carpenter in his previous life, and was one of HD's best long term kitchen salespeople. He presented our situation to the HD manager who communicated with KM on our behalf. Because of this support, I would use both HD and KM again. I'd gotten an estimate for Merillat, but the KD was so disorganized, that she didn't get back to me twice. When I finally caught her, the amount was about double what it should have been, and she hadn't even caught her mistake, so I didn't want to work with her. I was going to get an estimate for KM from an independent place, but since the gal was on commission, she was always rushing through everything. I went with HD because I could go at my own pace. However, even with appointments there, there are constant interruptions due to phones ringing and other customers needing quick answers to questions. Like Nalcar, I measured everything myself, figured out every detail of my order, and gave it to the KD both times (after discussing the various cabinets with them), and then double checked the printout before I paid for the finalized copy. Comments (11)Hi Tink! I've been coming here a LONG time. I don't remember the exact year, but definitely sometime in the 90's! I remember doing a "Netscape Search" (if that doesn't date me!!!) on how to take care of a raw butcherblock top...instead of a sealant. But anyway.... Yes, I sell other lines (from low to high): United Series by Legacy, Debut by Legacy, KraftMaid, Showplace Wood Products, Medallion, Holiday Kitchens and Plain & Fancy. Most builders wouldn't have allowances high enough to have a nice Medallion kitchen. At least that's true in my neck of the woods. So, I believe that your builder thought you paid a LOT more for the cabinets...you probably did. But, you won't have to spend the money to replace them in 12 to 15 years either. Most builder grade cabinets don't look nearly as good after that amount of time. When Medallion first came out with inset, we laughed. The price was SO high, it wasn't that much more for Plain & Fancy cabinetry!!! So, we didn't even bother getting brochures or displays. Since then, Medallion must have figured out they were too high and have since lowered their prices on inset. A while back they had a promo that really brought down their inset prices. I almost ordered a built in entertainment center for my home....that's how great it was. If you have a Showplace dealer in your area, you should check them out. Nice looking cabinet and less money than Medallion inset! But price out both just to be sure. And if you have a P&F dealer, give them a shot too! Their painted finishes are incredible!!! I would say that Brookhaven would be in the Medallion price range. Both are upper end semi-custom cabinetry. KraftMaid is middle of road semi-custom....while Debut is lower end semi-custom!...See MoreInstallation of fireclay apron front sink into KraftMaid cabinet
Comments (9)Of course a standard wood cradle will work, although I prefer aluminum channel stock. its stronger and won’t rot. It’s just standard framing techniques, just like building a wall . Maybe you are misunderstanding how to build one. Show pictures of your attempt. A standard cable type HUSH will work as well. So will any type of harness. There’s nothing special about any of this. A Kohler Whitehaven slipcover sink IS far easier to install, and a much more durable choice than an off brand fireclay that will chip and craze, and has no uniform sizing expectations. This is a permanent install. There aren’t Joe Corletts around every corner to fix decisions like that. Don’t cement this in stone. The CoreGuard sink base is a big upgrade. It is not standard construction. It had to be added as an upgrade by your designer, and was worth every penny. Especially for a farm sink base that gets a lot more water damage than a standard one because of how farm sinks drip everywhere....See MoreBenjiBoi
