I don't think it would look weird to paint your kitchen trim white and have the rest of the main floor keep its oak trim... that was my instinct at the top of the thread and then the photo posted by marybeth1 confirmed it. When we moved into our previous 1926 house, the woodwork was all old varnished fir. Everyone was like, oh, I love that trim! But: it was not an architect-designed house (I think it was a Sears kit house, actually) and I didn't love calling attention to the doors and windows, which were not thoughtfully placed, with the dark trim. I painted it all BM White Dove, and suddenly the house was open, airy, and gorgeous... filled with light. It was an amazing transformation. Everyone who'd been trying to convince me not to paint it wound up saying they were wrong. Now, your house is already pretty airy looking, and your trim is lighter to start with.... but my point is that if you want white trim in the kitchen, do it!!!

We finished our remodel 3 years ago and I picked oak cabinets (a little lighter than golden oak) and uba tuba. The combination looks very good together. Originally, I wanted maple cabinets and saw that there was more color variation in the staining than desired. Anyway: no regrets about this decision! The walls are painted a goldish tan (somewhat like wheat). Haven't done a backsplash yet. The more I live with the painted walls which I like the slower to get tile. I've been thinking a light green or cream color in a classic style would look good. My goal is a calm, serene look. Sometimes, I get second thoughts and think about a mission or craftsman type design over the stove.

we really stepped out of the box and went with espresso stained cherry, sedna granite, granite backsplash on cooktop wall, rubbed bronze door hardware. i dont like stainless, so we paneled appliances. although we did use harvest gold stain on refrig. and some trim pieces. we were afraid it was going to be too dark, but it looks awesome, imho. we do have a skylight, kitchen window, sliders in dining room and dining room window, so we do get alot of light. we also did 2 glass upper cabs. alot of people suggested a light granite, but none "spoke" to me and frankly i don't like the look of dark cabs with white or almost white granite. to me it looks commericial/sterile. i also did not do stainless/silver hardware. again, did not like the look and i really didn't want to see all this silver which in my opinion is what would catch your eye with dark cabs. i didn't want to really notice the hardware, just wanted it to blend. my advice, get what YOU love. you have to look at it everyday not the people who recommend "this or that". that's what we did and we don't regret it for a second. we still have a pretty big punch list, so i will post pics when all is done. best of luck!!

My husband is in the process installing multi-colored slate backsplash with grey, green, and brown. We have oak cabinets, dark brown granite, oak wood floors, and I need help with paint color.
