deBuyer mineral pans at Tuesday Morning
Comments (34)cooksnsews and arley - I'm interested in whether your pans came out with uniform slick surfaces after your seasoning? I've gone through this with the deBuyer pans I bought as well as two carbon steel woks. I did the deBuyer pans on the stove and got a light brown discoloration which didn't have the slick feel a properly seasoned pan should have. Then I did all of them in the oven, using lard, and baking them at 425F for about an hour. They came out with a darker layer, but the first time I used one of the woks, cooking at high heat, the whole layer simply evaporated! I then redid both woks, using corn oil, in the oven. This time I baked them at 450F for about 90 minutes. They came out with a darkish surface, but it's not uniform. I've cooked with one of them and so far the layer seems to stay on. I may be home free with them, as I know once they're properly seasoned, they will get better with regular use. I tried reseasoning the deBuyer pans on the cooktop, using high heat and the corn oil, and I got a darker layer but I'm not sure if it will stay there. I used one of them to sear fish and a few dark flakes came off the bottom. I may have to do them again. I'm curious to know what your experiences were. Comments (8)Oh, thanks all. Love all the suggestions. anniecat, I hadn't thought of Pier One. I will check it out! Jill, what a great site. I'm not a faux flower person really, but I love branches, vines, and twigs. That's a wonderful source and I will likely be ordering from them soon. birdgardner and beekeeper, I do have a young cherry tree but it's not mature yet and want to keep the branches on it for now. Our house has tons of shade and no forsythia in sight unfortunately. I could steal some from somewhere, I guess. I have forced branches before, and love the look, but then I'm so sad when they wilt. Is there anyway to preserve them? Glycerin maybe?? yayagal, thanks, I WILL check out Michaels too. My dining room thanks all of you in advance :)...See MoreGood Morning on Tuesday!
Comments (2)Did Laundry all day yesterday but still have to wash couch covers on the furniture in the sun room. Vacuumed and steam cleaned the main areas of the house last night too. Still have to do the sun room and bedrooms, though. I'm on my way out the door to drop off Netflix movies at the post office, pick up paperwork for our exchange students to get them enrolled and for sports activities for one, get Lauren's last report card (was going to print it off the school's website but they've taken that info down and now have this coming school semester up already), find out about AP exam money she is supposed to get back for passing it, and a few other questions. Then I have to pick up a few things from the grocery store. I'm making curry tonight so the kids can eat it over the next couple days while I'm working and I have it to take to work for lunch too. Then I'm going to try and relax some. I've had four days off in a row, which is unusual and this is the last one....See MoreGood Morning on Tuesday
Comments (11)Anytime, Any Kind Muffins Ingredients 6 Cups old Fashioned Oats 5 cups all purpose flour 2 cups very hot water 1 cup shortening, melted (such as Crisco, can substitute melted butter) 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 4 cups buttermilk 5 teaspoons baking soda 2 teaspoons cinnamon 2 teaspoons salt Instructions For each batch, you can add 1/2 cup mix ins to one cup of batter. Mix in ideas are: Blueberries, chocolate chips, sliced almonds, walnuts, chopped pecans, diced apples, dried cranberries or cherries, other dried fruit or berries, chopped banana In a medium bowl, place 2 cups oats and hot water. Stir and set aside. Place all remaining dry ingredients into a large bowl or dishpan. Stir to combine. Form a well in the center and crack eggs into the well while beating them lightly with a spoon. Add milk and stir batter well with large spoon until well combined. Melt shortening or butter and pour into hot oat mixture, stir. Pour hot oats into batter and stir again until well combined. Cover and refrigerate at least overnight. To make 4 muffins muffins: 1 cup of muffin mix makes approximately 4 muffins. To every cup, add about 1/2 cup of mix ins such as berries, chocolate chips, nuts, or dried fruit. See post above for more ideas. To make only one muffin, use 1/4 cup batter and approximately 2 tablespoons mix ins. Bake in greased muffin tin or a muffin tin lined with cupcake papers at 400 for 20 minutes, or until lightly browned. Batter keeps for up to a month. Prepared muffins freeze well as does batter. Makes approximately 60 muffins. Batter can easily be halved. Sue...See Moreannes_arbor
