What to do with space between window casing and upper cabinets

We are remodeling the kitchen and on one wall we will be sandwiching a range hood and two upper cabinets between two windows.

The way it lays out there will be a narrow strip of wall between each upper cabinet and the casing on the two windows. This space will be about 2.5" wide. Near the top the casing runs very close to the cabinet crown the gap is even smaller

Do you think it would look bad have a narrow strip of painted wall 2.5 inches wide and 30" high. I don't think tiling it with the back splash would look right either

One idea was to move the cabinets out to fit flush against the casing and put a filler strip with return between the cabinet and the hood. This is probably the best solution but would mean some rework on the ceiling and wall with the drywall as there is a small soffit to contend with

Anyone have a similar situation and how did you resolve it?

thanks
