When we were planning our kitchen the MOST frustrating thing by far was not being able to obtains costs directly. We sat in front of the computer trying many different scenarios and floor plans, but were unable to make any final decisions without making and appointment to see someone and get prices.

Of course, along with the information came opinions. I don't like them unless I ask for them.

This was a major reason for our decision not to purchase Kraft Maid and a big part of the reason that we bought from Ikea.

There were a lot of things that were available from Kraft Maid that we really liked but we had to make an appointment at Home Depot every time we wanted an answer to a question.

In contrast, we could log onto IKEA'site and see costs and options immediately.

I know that there are a lot of people out there like us. We like to do things ourselves, are willing to spend money, but are very frustrated when we have to deal with designers, distributors and the like.

Their service is generally terrible and you end up having to deal with yet another opionion.

The technnical knowedge is good but it's something that you can find pretty well anywhere on the internet these days.

The one concern I would have would be quality. Be prepared and ready to have colour samples and quality samples of EVERYTHING that you are selling. Send them out with a smile at a fair price. Answer questions promptly and be very careful not to offer opinions unless asked.

About pricing...

I don't like to know that there are several different discounts available on things. Regardless of what I end up paying for something, I end up feeling that everyone else out there got the same thing for less money.

My sugggestion would be that you figure out the lowest price you can offer something for and still make a profit, and then stick with that. That way everyone knows that they got as good a deal as the next person, and the general perception of your firm will be that it deals fairly in an open and transparent manner.
