Well, I prefer a soft sink, but maybe a rubber mat in the bottom would be good enough if you're clumsy like I am.

Nothing wrong with dark counters in a small kitchen, especially with white cabs. If it feels dark, just add a better light fixture! Blackish counters just make the rest of the room feel brighter (assuming it's not black too!).

We have a small galley kitchen too (64 sq ft). We have soapstone countertops on the wet (sink) side and butcher block on the dry (range) side. With a white sink and a white tile backsplash the dark soapstone is a nice counterpoint.

The rubber mat is a great idea. I did break one or two glasses im my day when I had a soapstone sink. I miss it alot too. . .

There are alot of options if you so choose this direction as well. . .You just need to plan ahead.

Here are two sinks I just finished at the shop to get you just a little more interested. . .lol

This is a sink that will go all the way to the wall and have a high backsplash. . . sweet. . . The curved front sink in the background will be going into my show room . . .someday when we finish the showroom . . lol.

A piece of information for you to factor in:

If you're looking at the big national places to install, make sure they will come to your house to do a small job. I'm working my way through this now.

For example, M. Tex will only go something like 250 miles, and only to install 30 sq ft or more. Less than that and they'll fabricate, but you have to template and install. But they have the greatest variety of stone. So it's a bit aggravating.

Other DO install small projects far away. Just make it a question you ask up front, if that's what you're looking for, not after a 20-minute conversation about types of stones or something.

It is true that, for things like glasses, when they tip over, you also have to worry about them breaking on the SIDES of the sink. Not insurmountable, but something to consider.

I am attaching 2 pictures of small galley unfinished kit with dark cabs and soapstone, including sink. It works for me, I never expected anyone else to like it and I am surprised at the compliments we get.

This is exactly what I wanted in my kitchen! I wanted my window trim to be just like yours and let myself be talked out of it. Can't believe I did that.

Is it new or old?
From what I can see from the picture, I'm most interested in HOW is it that you have no spaces/gaps between each plank?
I currently have wide pine plank flooring in my DR that leads to the kitchen. And boy, in the winter w/ the contraction of the wood, I can lose Cheerios (or worst) in those gaps. I didn't think I could live with such gaps in a busy kitchen (the thought of dropped raw eggs/meat juice, etc in the gaps sickens me).

But, see, Eandhl, that's not dark at all! You have good lighting and bright cabinets (even if they are technically "dark"). Perfect example of how to make an underlit galley kitchen look anything but dark.

L0VE your soapstone counters and your cabinets are gorgeous!!!! They look beautiful together... Also wanted to thank you for all your help with my appliances. I lived with the dishwasher for a few days and now love it and wow does it clean, everything comes out sparkling. You were such a big help.
