Help choosing paint color please for dining room..

I'm about to repaint my dining room, due to my new dining room suit being the same color as the wall color. (The new furniture is alderwood, kind of a medium color wood, and the current wall color is Laura Ashley "Olde Gold" -- they blend together since they are so similar in color.) So, I'm at a lost what color to paint the room that would compliment the woodtones of the dining room furniture. I have a very traditional home. The adjacent foyer is painted SW "Compatiable Cream" and the formal living room off of the foyer is SW "Rural Green." I have lots of red accents throughout my house. What color would you suggest for the dining room? Oh, one important thing I should mention -- the dining room does have new wainscotting (sp?) and lawyers paneling/picture frames on the bottom, so that will remain white. Need paint color for top half. Thanks so much! Happy New Year!

I can say red in a more wordy fashion than lorrie....

Brick red :oP (Is that better?) Really though, a lovely brick red would compliment the green and creams you have going on and look fabulous with the wood tone. Red is always wonderful in a dining room.

What else do you have going on in this room, as far as draperies, any art work, a carpet, chair cushions, your furniture? Also, what style do you like; country, traditional, contemporary? I like the far right one as well. Much will depend on the kind of light the room gets... Here's what I do. When I've narrowed down to three colors, I buy tester pots and paint two mighty boards in each color. (6 total) then I tape them up in various spots...and always in one corner to mimic what the paint would look like in a corner. My local paint store carries MB...but one can also buy them online. The are pricy---but work much better than posterboard. I keep them in a portfolio and they are VERY useful when helping friends with paint decisions. melanie Here is a link that might be useful: Mighty Boards.

Thank you both for your responses. Oceanna, I know I should wait to paint until I select the furniture for these rooms, but I am going to have company for the holidays and I am embarrassed to have them look the way they do. I know I'm foolish and I will probably have to paint again once I get my furniture. I am currently considering mystic beige and richmond bisque. Has anyone used these colors? Thanks for your help.

Thanks Karen for your comment, and we ended up following your advice! We're just about done with the kitchen, and here's what we went with: We'll be replacing the dining room table / chairs at some point down the road, and countertops (getting installed this week) will be a white & grey engineered stone. We like the blue!

Thanks for your input! I've been checking out the thread showing all the different red paint choices. I think I would really enjoy a red dining room! Now it's just a matter of finding the "right" red! Thanks again.
